Responsibilities

  • Lead Medical Matrix Team activities to develop and execute the Medical Plan for Mood Disorders.

Position Summary

The Director, Global Medical Neuroscience, Psychiatry, Mood Disorders will serve as a medical and scientific leader responsible for supporting the development and execution of the global disease and asset specific medical strategy for BMS's Mood Disorders portfolio. This role will drive specific strategic initiatives and medical programs across the asset lifecycle, while building strong cross-functional relationships with key stakeholders, including US and Global Commercial, Global Drug Development, Research, HEOR, Regulatory Affairs, and global medical stakeholders. The Director will partner closely with the US Medical Strategy to execute Mood Disorders medical activities, contribute to the Mood Disorders medical vision, and represent BMS externally with the medical and scientific community.

This position reports to the Executive Director, Mood Disorders, Medical Product Lead, Global Medical Neuroscience, Psychiatry.

Key Responsibilities

Medical Strategy Execution
  • Lead and/or participate in Medical Matrix Team activities and meetings, contributing to the development, planning, and execution of the Medical Plan aligned with disease area and product strategies.
  • Represent Medical in strategic and cross-functional forums, contributing to the direction of Mood Disorders program across the development and commercialization lifecycle.
  • Monitor and translate the evolving Mood Disorders treatment landscape - including competitive intelligence, emerging science, and regulatory trends - into actionable medical strategies.
  • Contribute strategic input into asset development decisions and lifecycle management activities for Mood Disorders assets.
  • Support the development and execution of a comprehensive, Integrated Medical Plan that is aligned with disease area and portfolio priorities.
  • Partner closely with US Medical Strategy, Mood Disorders, to ensure consistent execution of the Medical Plan while supporting clear ownership, decision rights, and escalation pathways between strategy and execution.


Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Act as a strategic partner to Commercial, Market Access, Regulatory, R&D, and HEOR functions, ensuring medical perspectives are integrated into Brand Planning, launch readiness, and other commercialization activities.
  • Represent Medical Strategy on cross-functional brand teams, contributing to program-level decisions and planning processes.
  • Collaborate with Commercialization & Access organizations to align medical and commercial plans for the Mood Disorders franchise.
  • Coordinate with Marketing and matrix partners to communicate clinical trial results, treatment guidelines, and other clinical data internally and externally.


External Engagement & Scientific Leadership
  • Build and maintain relationships with thought leaders, key opinion leaders, academic centers, clinical researchers, and patient advocacy organizations within the Mood Disorders space.
  • Represent BMS externally, presenting scientific data and strategy at medical congresses, advisory boards, and scientific forums.
  • Support the strategy for Thought Leader identification, mapping, profiling, and engagement for the Mood Disorders franchise.
  • Support BMS-sponsored clinical and non-registrational research activities, including real-world evidence generation strategies.


People Leadership & Organizational Development
  • Support with mentoring and development of medical team members, fostering a high-performance, inclusive, and collaborative culture.
  • Provide coaching and development support to direct reports or matrixed team members as applicable.
  • Contribute to building organizational capability by identifying talent needs and supporting team development initiatives.
  • Model and champion BMS Values and the highest standards of scientific integrity in all activities.


Operational & Compliance Excellence
  • Support medical activities including labeling, safety surveillance, scientific advisory boards, congress support, real-world data generation, and publications, ensuring high-quality deliverables.
  • Participate in decision-making relevant to selecting external organizations and researchers for research collaborations.
  • Complete all assigned SOPs and training within designated timeframes and adhere to job-specific SOPs and work instructions.
  • Conduct all business in accordance with BMS Values and relevant compliance standards.


Qualifications & Experience

  • Education: Advanced degree (PhD, MD, DO, NP, PA, PharmD, etc.) in a scientific discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. MD or PhD strongly preferred.
  • Experience: A minimum of 7+ years of progressive professional experience in pharmaceutical development within life sciences or biopharmaceuticals, with a demonstrated track record of increasing responsibility. Minimum 3 years of medical affairs (WW or US) experience specific to Psychiatry or Mood Disorders.
  • Industry Knowledge: Solid understanding of the biopharma drug development and commercialization process. Experience in clinical research, development, or medical affairs in Psychiatry, with Mood Disorders experience preferred.
  • Leadership: Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional initiatives, build alignment, and develop team members in a matrixed environment.
  • Strategic Thinking: Proven ability to synthesize complex scientific and business information to support the development of medical strategies and inform decisions.
  • Global Experience: US and/or global medical affairs or clinical development experience preferred.
  • Cross-Functional Experience: Experience working across medical, commercial, regulatory, and clinical development functions, with the ability to support enterprise-wide initiatives.
  • Analytical Skills: Experience in analytics, data interpretation, and evidence generation, particularly in relation to asset launches and real-world evidence strategies.
  • Project & Portfolio Management: Experience managing complex, multi-stakeholder projects, with the ability to develop and execute clear action plans.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Strong ability to build relationships, influence, and collaborate across organizational levels.
  • Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present complex scientific and strategic content to internal and external stakeholders.
  • People Management: Experience in people leadership - including coaching, motivating, and development planning - in a multicultural, global environment.
  • Travel: Ability and willingness to travel globally (international travel may be required).

Compensation Overview:

Princeton - NJ - US: $207,490 - $251,433

The starting pay range(s) listed above is for full-time employees (FTE). You may also be eligible for additional discretionary incentive cash and stock opportunities. We determine starting pay thoughtfully - carefully considering the nature of the role, required skills, work location, schedule and the knowledge and experience you bring. Final compensation is guided by pay equity principles and applicable employment laws. Compensation programs are reviewed on an ongoing basis and may be adjusted over time to reflect evolving market factors, and individual, team or Company performance.

Subject to the terms and conditions of the applicable plans then in effect, you may be eligible to participate in our comprehensive benefit plans - including wellbeing support, retirement and financial protection benefits, and insurance offerings (medical, dental, vision, life and disability).

U.S.-based exempt employees are eligible for Flexible Time Off (FTO), which provides paid time off without a set accrual limit, subject to manager approval, along with 11 paid company holidays each year.

Non-exempt employees, RayzeBio employees, and employees located in Puerto Rico receive 160 hours of paid vacation annually for new hires (subject to manager approval), 11 paid company holidays, and 3 optional holidays.

Depending on eligibility, employees may also have access to additional time-off benefits, including paid sick leave, up to two paid volunteer days per year, summer hours flexibility, and leaves of absence for medical, personal, parental, caregiver, bereavement, or military needs. Eligible employees also enjoy an annual Global Shutdown between Christmas Day and New Year's Day.
