A Day in the Life

Operating as an entrepreneurial "mini-CEO" for Pureology's haircare and styling business (including iconic category-defining heroes like Hydrate), the Pillar Brand Director owns end-to-end global product pipeline strategy, science-backed claims innovation, master launch architecture, and multi-market commercial rollout. Reporting to Global Brand Lead, this leader translates consumer insights into breakthrough product solutions, driving global brand equity, hero SKU dominance, and strong commercial growth across all international markets.

Requirements

Required Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Business Administration, Product Development, or a related discipline.
  • Years of Experience: 7-10+ years of brand marketing and product innovation experience, ideally within prestige haircare, professional beauty, or innovation-driven consumer goods.
  • Job Specific Experience/Skills:
    • Proven track record owning a product portfolio, innovation pipeline, or category P&L with clear launch performance accountability.
    • Strong entrepreneurial mindset with the autonomy, rigor, and drive of a "mini-CEO."
    • Demonstrated ability to translate consumer insights and market white spaces into differentiated, high-efficacy, science-backed formulations and claims.
    • Experience authoring comprehensive Global Launch Books and developing global-to-local commercialization strategies (including East vs. West market adaptations).
    • Highly collaborative cross-functional leader with experience orchestrating insights, R&I/R&D, creative, O+O (Online + Offline), and zone commercial teams.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency with MS Office Suite (advanced PowerPoint & Excel), digital marketing dashboards, and syndicated industry data platforms (NPD/Circana, Nielsen, Launch metrics).
  • Physical Requirements: Physical in-office presence required aligned with company hybrid policy; standard office activities (sitting, standing, computer work).

Responsibilities

Pillar Strategy & Portfolio Ownership: Act as the "mini-CEO" for the total Pureology portfolio; define multi-year product roadmaps, lifecycle management, and long-term claims strategy to sustain global category leadership.

White-Space Innovation & R&I Partnership: Uncover consumer and stylist pain points and portfolio gaps. Partner closely with R&I, Packaging, and Claims to co-create game-changing innovations.

Cross-Functional Leadership & Execution: Serve as the central strategic hub for launches, guiding cross-functional partners (R&I, Development, GBSC, Finance) to ensure on-time global readiness.

  • Drive launch timelines and the end-to-end development process from conception to execution.
  • Formulate strategic recommendations for launch sizing and pricing while safeguarding gross margin (GM) targets.
  • Secure country alignment across global markets to maximize volume and distribution.


Global Launch Leadership: Author master Global Launch Books, comprehensive 360° marketing toolkits, and messaging hierarchies; collaborate with the Campaign & Content team on asset guidelines for all launches and restages.

Global-to-Local Customization: Tailor regional strategies for distinct geographic zones as needed to address specific regional needs.

Performance Accountability: Own pillar KPIs, tracking performance against forecasts, Weight of Newness (WON >15%), and global sell-in/sell-out metrics.

Sustainability Stewardship: Champion L'Oréal for the Future standards by prioritizing eco-conscious packaging, clean formulas, and responsible messaging.

Key Challenges & Complexities

Defending & Expanding Hero Authority: Sustain Pureology's market dominance against aggressive competition while launching incremental, non-cannibalizing innovations.
