Full Job Description
CI Financial is seeking a detail-oriented and collaborative Director, Fund Taxation to support the tax operations and compliance functions across CI’s suite of investment products—including mutual funds, ETFs, closed-end funds, mutual fund corporations, and segregated funds. This role plays a key part in ensuring accurate tax reporting, supporting fund tax planning, and maintaining compliance with Canadian tax regulations.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
Tax Operations & Compliance
• Coordinate the preparation and review of monthly, quarterly, and annual fund tax distributions and allocations.
• Assist in the preparation and filing of fund tax returns, including T3, T5, and NR4 slips.
• Support the review of mock and final year-end distributions and tax factors.
• Ensure compliance with CRA requirements and assist with audit engagements.
Tax Reporting & Documentation
• Prepare and maintain documentation for PFIC reporting, HST blended rate calculations, and international tax forms (e.g., W-8 BEN-E, CRS, W-9).
• Monitor changes in tax legislation and assist in updating internal procedures accordingly.
• Maintain robust documentation and internal controls for fund tax processes.
Cross-Functional Support
• Collaborate with Legal, Product, Operations, and Client Services teams to address tax-related inquiries and support product initiatives.
• Participate in fund launches, mergers, and terminations from a tax perspective.
• Assist in the development and maintenance of tax reporting tools and systems.
Team & Vendor Coordination
• Provide guidance and mentorship to junior tax staff.
• Liaise with external tax advisors, custodians, and service providers to ensure timely and accurate tax filings and data exchange.
WHAT YOU WILL BRING
• Minimum 5–7 years of experience in fund taxation, accounting, or financial services, with a strong understanding of Canadian mutual funds and ETFs.
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA designation preferred.
• Working knowledge of IFRS, fund accounting principles, and Canadian tax reporting standards.
• Proficiency in CCH iFirm Taxprep, Microsoft Excel and tax software (e.g., MCH, E-Horizon).
• Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
