Full Job Description
Director, Field Execution and Excellence

Madrigal is seeking a highly collaborative, resilient, and execution-oriented leader for the role of Director, Field Execution and Excellence.

Reporting to the Senior Director, Sales Development and Execution Excellence, this role will lead program management for Field Sales-sponsored initiatives and support the integration of cross-functional initiatives with a meaningful field-facing component. The Director will serve as a key connection point between Field Sales, other field-facing teams, and home-office partners to ensure priorities are effectively planned, coordinated, communicated, and implemented. Broader program leadership may be assigned when specifically designated by the executive sponsor or Senior Director, Sales Development and Execution Excellence.

The Director will anticipate field implications to then translate strategic national priorities into actionable project plans, governance, timelines, budgets, communications, and implementation plans; anticipate dependencies and execution risks; and drive accountability across teams without formal authority. This individual will partner closely with Sales leadership and cross-functional stakeholders to improve field readiness, adoption, and execution.

Position Responsibilities

Field Sales Program Governance
  • Lead program management for Field Sales-sponsored initiatives and maintain visibility across other priority initiatives requiring significant field-facing coordination or implementation.
  • Translate strategic direction into clear, actionable, and measurable program plans, including governance, operating cadences, stakeholder responsibilities, decision points, and escalation pathways.
  • Identify competing priorities, capacity constraints, dependencies, sequencing issues, and execution risks, providing timely recommendations to leadership.
  • Drive accountability by ensuring decisions, commitments, owners, and follow-up actions are clearly documented and completed.
  • Develop concise executive updates highlighting progress, risks, decisions required, resource implications, field feedback, and recommended actions.

National meetings and commercial operating cadence
  • Lead project management for major national and field-facing meetings and initiatives, including Annual Regional Reviews, Plans of Action, National Sales Meetings, People Leader Meetings, Fast Start meetings, and other national or zone-level meetings.
  • Manage integrated timelines, stakeholder workstreams, content-development processes, presenter preparation, leadership reviews, communications, and post-meeting follow-through.
  • Partner with meeting-planning, administrative, Training, Marketing, and external resources to ensure that logistical execution supports the strategic objectives of each meeting.
  • Ensure that meeting outcomes are translated into clearly assigned actions, field expectations, and measurable follow-through.

Cross-Functional Field Integration
  • Lead the execution of assigned national commercial initiatives and emerging business priorities.
  • Serve as a key connection point between Field Sales, other field-facing teams, and home-office functions to ensure field implications and implementation requirements are understood early in the planning process.
  • Coordinate roles, responsibilities, timelines, dependencies, deliverables, and decision points across participating stakeholders.
  • Partner with functional owners to support field readiness, communication, training, implementation, and adoption while preserving functional ownership of strategy, content, systems, and approvals.
  • Incorporate field perspectives into planning, identify implementation barriers, and develop change-management approaches to improve field adoption and execution.
  • Facilitate cross-functional problem solving and escalate issues requiring changes in strategy, resources, timing, scope, or senior-leadership alignment.
  • Ensure that work requiring Legal, Medical, Regulatory, or Compliance review is routed through the appropriate approval process before dissemination.

Process improvement and operational effectiveness
  • Identify opportunities to simplify, standardize, automate, or eliminate inefficient field-facing processes.
  • Lead or support process-improvement initiatives involving field platforms, communications, reporting workflows, meeting processes, and cross-functional coordination.
  • Partner with Information Technology, Commercial Operations, Analytics, and system owners on initiatives involving Veeva and other field-facing technology.
  • Develop repeatable processes, templates, tools, and governance mechanisms that improve efficiency, visibility, and accountability.
  • Partner with Executive Sales Directors, Regional Sales Directors, Field Development Managers, and other field leaders to identify implementation barriers and improve field adoption.
  • Provide temporary leadership coverage for open Regional Sales Director roles, as needed and based on business priorities, field circumstances, and available capacity, to support continuity of leadership and field execution.

Budget and vendor management
  • Develop and manage budgets for assigned programs, including forecasting, expenditure tracking, cost controls, and identification of financial risks
  • Coordinate with Finance, Procurement, Legal, and functional stakeholders on external vendor engagement and contracting.
  • Manage vendor performance for assigned initiatives, ensuring adherence to scope, timelines, quality standards, and financial commitments.
  • Develop business cases and resource recommendations when additional investment or support is required.
