Position Summary

The Director of Facilities Engineering will be responsible for all facility Engineering related activities to include but not limited to developing, overseeing, and managing programs, budgets, construction management, optimizing all MEP building systems, and regulatory compliance for multi-site life sciences company primarily located in Phoenix, AZ. As a strategic business partner, this role will drive facility strategy and planning to support daily operations as well as Facility Engineering Solutions. The environment is growth-oriented and dynamic, supporting both new business line launches, additional sites, and continuous improvement of existing operations.

Job Responsibilities
  • Own the Facilities Engineering strategy and execution across multiple sites, ensuring infrastructure reliability, scalability, and alignment with organizational growth objectives.
  • Develop, implement, and improve preventive and predictive maintenance programs that maximize equipment reliability, asset lifecycle, and operational uptime while maintaining compliance with regulatory and industry standards.
  • Provide oversight and implement preventative maintenance programs to include the ongoing maintenance and repair of MEP equipment in compliance with industry best practices and regulatory requirements.
  • Assuring optimal functioning of building systems including HVAC, Plumbing, and Electrical.
  • Leading the corrective maintenance program to solve reactive requirements in a structured manner through both in-house and contracted services. Leverage CMMS system and process to drive consistency and accountability.
  • Deep understanding of facility regulatory compliance and ability to represent Caris Facilities to internal and external auditors.
  • Responds on-site to immediate emergent and business critical issues and challenges. Drives a program of urgency with both in-house and contracted teams to ensure rapid response and solutions.
  • Establish and lead emergency response and business continuity programs for facility-related incidents, ensuring rapid decision-making, effective escalation, and timely resolution of critical operational issues.
  • Establishing relationships with key departmental leadership, developing and implementing facilities requirements for emerging and expanding business units and changing needs.
  • Utilizing project management tools and processes to ensure projects achieve desired objectives and meet requirements with focused change management plans.
  • Manages, directs, and leads a team of exempt and non-exempt individuals accountable for providing facilities MEP support. Recruits, hires, trains, and develops team. Provides direction to and development of associates through daily coaching, the administration of Performance Management, and the creation and implementation of development plans.
  • Own and manage facilities departmental capital planning, ensuring projects are delivered safely, on schedule, and within budget.
  • Assists as needed to perform other related duties and special projects as required.
  • Accepts other duties as assigned.


Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, with a preference for Mechanical Engineering.
  • 10+ years in a Facilities Leadership position in a Life Sciences, Pharmaceutical, or Healthcare environment required.
  • Hands-on leadership experience coordinating proactive and reactive services related to building operation and maintenance with in-house and contracted teams.
  • Candidates should be comfortable taking a hands-on approach and should be able to thrive in a position that will be responsible for multiple projects in a growth-oriented environment. Further, candidates must possess the ability to proactively problem solve and manage programs and projects that require a strong attention to detail.
  • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, CMMS systems, BMS systems, and general working knowledge of Internet for business use.
  • Lead by example and drive outcomes based on persistence and passion for excellence. Six Sigma and Lean experience.
  • Quick study who can learn our business processes and apply general service and "production environment" quality tools across multiple departments.
  • Excellent teamwork skills and proven ability to work under tight deadlines in a fast paced, competitive environment.
  • Ability to deal with confidential and sensitive information with tact and diplomacy.
  • Excellent organizational and follow-up skills.
  • Able to manage a wide variety of tasks and projects while maintaining timelines of delivery, quality of results, and maintain a calm demeanor in high pressure situations.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Masters Degree in Engineering or Business Discipline.


Physical Demands
  • Must possess ability to sit and/or stand for long periods of time.
  • Must possess ability to perform repetitive motion.
  • Crouching and bending may be required when retrieving files. Ability to lift, bend, twist, carry, pushing & pulling, and climb ladders.
  • Ability in hearing acuity, visual acuity, and color discrimination.
  • Ability in manual dexterity.
  • Excellent hand - eye coordination.
  • Ability to lift up to 30 pounds.
