Summary:


Under the direction of the Assistant Superintendent of Operational Services and within the framework of district policy, the Director of Facilities is responsible for planning, coordinating and directing the District's facilities and maintenance departments, custodial services, District's environmental, hazmat and storm water programs, including budgets for all funds associated with these operations. The Director will provide oversight for projects involving new and remodeled buildings, building systems and all site and facility amenities. The Director will ensure compliance with District policies and all applicable codes related to facilities.

Responsibilities:

  • Develops policies and procedures for the maintenance of all site and building systems to include the distribution of duties, responsibilities and authority of the maintenance staff, in-service training, requisitions, service and work orders.
  • Develops policies and procedures to provide appropriate responses to facility or utility emergencies that affect the operation of schools or district buildings to ensure the uninterrupted delivery of the educational programs and support services. Provides emergency response to the Crisis Management Team regarding facility issues as part of the district's disaster preparedness effort.
  • Manages and directs all department activities (maintenance, custodial, environmental, hazmat) to ensure a safe, healthful learning environment in support of the district's mission goals and priorities.
  • Directs departments efforts to ensure efficient use of resources including power, fuels, and water in accordance with board policy. Manages BVSD's Irrigation Ditch portfolio and stormwater management practices.
  • Manages Capital Construction and Bond Projects as assigned.
  • Directs the planning, estimating and scheduling of all assigned projects, preventive maintenance and planned maintenance work to ensure the effective use of personnel, finances and equipment resources.
  • Directs the planning of maintenance activities, and assessment of facility needs for immediate, short term and long term implementation at all facilities.
  • Assists the Planning, Construction and Engineering Department in planning and prioritizing various building and utility improvements and renovations.
  • Acts as a resource where Transportation, Food Service, MIS, Security, Operations, Environmental Services, Special Education, Business Services, Risk Management and all other BVSD departments require facility services.
  • Provides direction and communicates policies and procedures to supervisors and maintenance staff to ensure effective delivery of services to all schools on an equitable basis.
  • Coordinates the hiring process for temporary and full-time employees following district HRD procedures. Assures evaluation of maintenance personnel in accordance with the negotiated agreements and HRD evaluation cycles for classified personnel and District Leadership Team.
  • Responsible for ensuring that adequate training is provided to all personnel to match the skill levels required to provide high quality services to the district.
  • Works with all building principals to resolve any operational or maintenance issues that are vital to the instructional program. Keeps the principals and administration informed on the scheduling and completion of all maintenance work at all facilities.
  • Develops the department budgets and monitors expenditures for the personnel, finances, vehicles and equipment to provide support services to staff, students and public.
  • Evaluate traffic safety around district sites in coordination with the Transportation and Security Departments.
  • Respond as essential personnel in case of an emergency, weather or environmental event, and/or school/facility/district closure.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Qualifications:

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree with a major pertinent to the position requirements or equivalent experience with a minimum of three years of experience working in a facilities management environment.
  • Minimum of three years of supervisory experience, including responsibility for hiring, training, directing work, evaluating performance, and addressing employee concerns or disciplinary matters.
  • Completed and submitted BVSD online application.
  • Communicate (read, write, and speak) in English.
  • Must have a valid driver's license.


Preferred:

  • Extensive knowledge and experience in facilities operation and maintenance.
  • Very strong organizational, planning and time-management skills.
  • Progressively responsible management and leadership experience.
  • Ability to work as a team leader and to foster a cooperative work environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills with a strong customer service orientation.
  • Knowledge of and ability to interpret life safety codes, ADA regulations, construction documents, State, City and local statutes and regulations.
  • Ability to develop budgets and perform detailed analysis of budgets.
  • Ability to promote and follow Board of Education policies, District policies and building and department procedures.
  • Ability to recognize the importance of safety in the workplace, follow safety rules, practice safe work habits, utilize appropriate safety equipment and report unsafe conditions to the appropriate administrator.
  • Operating knowledge of building systems and maintenance procedures; levels of cleanliness and building organization; maintenance of outdoor environment; sustainability and environmental responsibilities; and familiarity with work order and facility use software.


Salary Information:

Salary Range 13: $117,384.00 - $176,077.00

Salary Placement varies according to experience and education.

*Pay range listed above is for employees newly hired to BVSD or current BVSD employees that are new to the employee group (existing employees currently in this unit please refer to the pay range on the appropriate salary schedule).
