The OpportunityThe Director, External Market Intelligence provides enterprise-level market, competitor, and operating-model intelligence to inform corporate strategy, investment priorities, and competitive positioning. The role translates complex external developments into clear, decision-oriented insights and recommendations; supports M&A and strategic opportunity assessments; and connects Strategy, Corporate Development, Finance, Legal and Regulatory, Commercial, and Operations teams on externally driven initiatives.
This is an IN-OFFICE position, Located in Lake Mary, FL.
What You'll DoEssential Functions- Corporate and Competitive Strategy: Provide market, competitor, and operating-model insights that inform corporate strategy, competitive positioning, strategic choices, and trade-offs.
- Industry and Market Monitoring: Monitor global industry trends, regulatory developments, competitor actions, and market signals; identify emerging risks, opportunities, and inflection points; and keep senior leadership informed of material changes.
- Competitive and Operating-Model Analysis: Assess competitors and adjacent players, including business models, asset strategies, cost structures, routes to market, scale, margins, capital efficiency, vertical integration, intellectual property, and regulatory positioning.
- M&A and Strategic Opportunities: Partner with the CSO and Corporate Development to identify, screen, prioritize, and assess acquisitions, partnerships, investments, market entries, and expansion opportunities.
- Financial Modelling and Business-Model Evaluation: Work with Finance to develop and review financial models, valuation scenarios, return analyses, alternative revenue structures, and capital requirements; support investment theses and executive- and Board-level materials.
- Business Development and Collaboration: Originate strategic and business-development opportunities from external intelligence and coordinate cross-functional alignment and execution.
- Intelligence Infrastructure: Maintain competitor and market profiles, intelligence tools, data sources, and knowledge repositories; engage external advisors and experts; and track transactions, partnerships, financings, and strategic shifts.
OTHER DUTIESWill be required to perform other duties as requested, directed or assigned. Regular attendance in conformance with the standards, which may be established by Village Farms International, Inc. from time to time, is essential to the successful performance of this position.
What You BringEducation- Bachelor's degree in business, Finance, Economics, or a related field required
- MBA, CFA, or equivalent advanced qualification preferred.
Experience- Six to ten years of experience in strategy consulting, corporate strategy, equity research, investment banking, corporate development, external market intelligence, or a related discipline
- Demonstrated experience in M&A screening, strategic-fit assessment, valuation fundamentals, financial modelling, and business-model evaluation.
- Experience in regulated, asset-intensive, consumer packaged goods, or similar industries preferred
Knowledge & Skills- Strong knowledge of external market intelligence, competitive strategy, corporate development, and valuation fundamentals.
- Advanced financial modelling and business-model evaluation capability.
- Ability to synthesize complex external information into concise, decision-oriented insights, options, and recommendations.
- Strong collaboration, communication, and influencing skills with senior leaders and cross-functional stakeholders.
- High degree of intellectual curiosity, analytical rigor, business judgment, discretion, and organizational discipline.
