Position Summary

The Director of Environmental Services provides strategic and operational leadership for all environmental services functions within a single-hospital health system. This role is responsible for ensuring a safe, clean, sanitary, and healing environment for patients, visitors, physicians, and staff through the effective management of housekeeping, patient transport (if applicable), waste management, linen services, and related support operations. The Director develops and implements departmental goals, policies, and performance standards that align with the hospital's mission, regulatory requirements, quality initiatives, and patient experience objectives.

The Director oversees departmental operations, staffing, budgeting, productivity, and service excellence to maintain compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, as well as accreditation standards, including those established by The Joint Commission and other regulatory agencies. Working collaboratively with clinical and administrative leaders, the Director drives continuous process improvement, infection prevention initiatives, environmental safety programs, and operational efficiencies to support exceptional patient outcomes and organizational performance.

Education

• Bachelor's degree in Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, Hospitality Management, Environmental Services, Public Health, Facilities Management, or a related field required.
• Master's degree in Healthcare Administration (MHA), Business Administration (MBA), Public Health (MPH), or a related discipline preferred.
• Relevant professional certifications such as Certified Healthcare Environmental Services Professional (CHESP), Certified Healthcare Housekeeping Executive (CHHE), or other industry-recognized credentials.

Experience

• 7-10 years of progressive Environmental Services, Hospitality Services, Facilities Support Services, or related operational leadership experience.
• Minimum of 5 years of management experience with responsibility for staffing, budgets, performance management, and departmental operations.
• Experience leading environmental services operations within a hospital, healthcare system, or similarly complex regulated environment.
• Demonstrated experience with regulatory compliance, infection prevention protocols, patient satisfaction initiatives, and accreditation standards.

• Strong leadership and staff development skills, with the ability to lead, motivate, and manage a diverse workforce.
• Comprehensive knowledge of healthcare environmental services operations, including housekeeping, waste management, infection prevention, and regulatory compliance.
• Demonstrated ability to develop and implement operational strategies that support organizational goals, patient satisfaction, service excellence, and continuous improvement.
• Thorough understanding of applicable regulatory and accreditation standards, including The Joint Commission, CMS, OSHA, EPA, and state healthcare requirements.
• Strong financial and business acumen, including experience managing budgets, productivity, resource allocation, contracts, and cost-containment initiatives.
• Ability to analyze operational data and performance metrics to drive decision-making, improve efficiency, and achieve departmental objectives.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and relationship management skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with leadership, physicians, staff, patients, and external partners.
• Proven problem-solving, decision-making, and conflict-resolution abilities in a complex healthcare environment.
• Strong customer service orientation with a commitment to enhancing patient, visitor, and employee experience.
• Ability to lead change, manage multiple priorities, and maintain operational effectiveness in a fast-paced setting.
• Proficiency with healthcare technology systems, workforce management tools, and Microsoft Office applications.
• Demonstrated commitment to accountability, professionalism, integrity, teamwork, and continuous improvement.

Pay Range: $125,715.20 - $157,144.00
