Full Job Description
NRG is seeking a Director to join its Growth & Partnerships organization. This role is ideal for an analytically rigorous energy leader who excels at creating structure, aligning cross-functional teams, and establishing repeatable processes that improve how complex opportunities are evaluated and advanced. The Director will build the internal programs, decision systems, governance, and analytical standards that enable the Growth & Partnerships organization to execute consistently and at a high level. This leader will create the structure, cross-functional alignment, and operating discipline needed to translate complex growth opportunities into clear priorities, rigorous analysis, and executable plans. Working across internal functions, the Director will create consistency across opportunity portfolios, and ensure leaders receive comparable, decision-ready analysis. The role will partner closely with NRG's operating businesses and Finance, Regulatory, Legal, Operations, Technology, Development, and other functions to move priority opportunities through a clear, disciplined path from initial thesis to validation, investment decision, and transition to scale. Key Responsibilities 3 Design and manage a common operating system for the Growth & Partnerships organization, including opportunity intake, prioritization, workplans, stage gates, decision rights, governance forums, and transition criteria. 3 Create and drive decision-making systems that help leadership allocate resources, resolve tradeoffs, and advance the highest-value opportunities with discipline. 3 Establish a consistent analytical framework for evaluating opportunities across markets, business units, technologies, and time horizons. 3 Set and uphold a high bar for business cases, financial models, market assessments, customer value propositions, risk analysis, and executive recommendations; ensure assumptions and logic are transparent and defensible. 3 Integrate opportunity portfolios into a coherent enterprise pipeline, enabling teams to focus on developing opportunities while maintaining consistent priorities, processes, and execution standards across the organization. 3 Lead cross-functional growth programs that bring together commercial, Finance, Regulatory, Legal, Operations, Technology, Development, Strategy, and business-unit teams around shared outcomes. 3 Build trusted internal relationships, clarify roles and accountabilities, surface dependencies, and create practical pathways through organizational complexity. 3 Develop reusable tools, templates, data standards, and reporting mechanisms that improve the quality, consistency, and speed of work across the organization. 3 Maintain enterprise visibility into portfolio status, resource needs, risks, open questions, milestones, and upcoming decisions. 3 Translate complex cross-functional work into clear, executive-ready materials and integrated recommendations for senior leadership and Board discussions. 3 Support pilot governance and transition planning so validated opportunities move cleanly to the business units best positioned to scale them. What We Are Looking For 3 Enterprise operators who know how to build the programs, processes, and operating rhythms that make a new organization effective. 3 Patient bridge-builders who can establish trust, navigate internally, and align stakeholders with different goals, constraints, and perspectives. 3 Structured problem solvers who turn ambiguity into practical workplans, decision frameworks, governance, and clear accountability. 3 Analytically rigorous leaders who remain close enough to the work to test the logic, challenge assumptions, and raise the quality of models and recommendations. 3 Cross-functional leaders who create momentum through influence, follow-through, and disciplined coordination rather than formal authority. 3 Systems thinkers who can identify common requirements across distinct opportunity portfolios while preserving appropriate flexibility. 3 Strong communicators who translate complex technical, regulatory, operational, and financial issues into clear choices for senior stakeholders. 3 Collaborative peers who complement externally oriented growth leaders and take pride in enabling the entire team to perform at a consistently high level. 3 Leaders who demonstrate sound judgment, intellectual honesty, ownership, persistence, and a commitment to measurable outcomes. Preferred Experience 3 10-15+ years of experience in enterprise strategy, program leadership, strategic finance, management consulting, operations, business transformation, market development, or a related field. 3 Demonstrated experience creating and implementing decision systems, governance models, stage gates, portfolio processes, or other operating mechanisms for complex cross-functional work. 3 Recent hands-on experience building or reviewing sophisticated financial models and analytical frameworks, with the ability to understand the underlying logic rather than simply replicate an existing analysis. 3 Significant experience in energy, utilities, competitive power markets, distributed energy resources, demand response, energy technology, infrastructure, data centers, industrial energy management, or a closely related sector. 3 Technical knowledge of energy markets, including regulated ecosystems, and the ability to quickly understand complex commercial, regulatory, operational, and financial environments. 3 Experience leading cross-functional initiatives and influencing senior stakeholders without relying on direct authority. 3 Experience standardizing methods, data, assumptions, reporting, or decision criteria across teams or business units. 3 Familiarity with one or more of the following areas: wholesale power and generation economics; retail energy and customer solutions; data center and hyperscaler energy needs; utility partnerships and regulation; DERs, demand response, load flexibility, or virtual power plants; corporate development, investment analysis, or commercialization of new products and services. 3 Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Economics, Engineering, Energy Systems, Public Policy, or a related discipline. 3 MBA, master's degree, or other advanced degree preferred but not required. Success in This Role 3 Establish a trusted, repeatable operating system that gives Growth & Partnerships a shared language, cadence, and path from opportunity intake through decision and transition. 3 Create consistent analytical and decision standards across opportunity portfolios and supporting teams. 3 Enable teams to develop clear, comparable business cases, financial models, assumptions, and executive recommendations that support effective enterprise decision-making. 3 Build strong internal partnerships and make cross-functional engagement more efficient, transparent, and accountable. 3 Give leadership timely visibility into portfolio progress, tradeoffs, resource needs, risks, and required decisions. 3 Enable opportunity teams to move faster without sacrificing rigor, collaboration, or effective governance. 3 Develop a reputation as the internal integrator who helps Growth & Partnerships operate as one coordinated enterprise platform.
