Job Description:

We are searching for the best talent to join our team as the Director, Enterprise Strategic Response in our New Brunswick, NJ office location.

The Director, Enterprise Strategic Response will report to the Senior Director, CEO Communications and Enterprise Strategic Response, and focus on enhancing and protecting the Company's reputation through issues management and policy communications, with primary responsibility in the U.S.

The Director will serve as the point person for issues management, collaborating with the media relations, government affairs, and law departments; sectors; external advisors and other communication leaders across Johnson & Johnson. In addition, this position will focus on advancing Johnson & Johnson's policy priorities through external communications. The Director will develop plans and coordinate actions to ensure the Company's positions are clearly understood by the media and other stakeholders.

The position requires extensive experience in communicating to the media and stakeholders related to issues, familiarity with the U.S. legal system, and strong understanding of the policy landscape. The role will partner with and will provide guidance to communicators in the businesses on how to communicate and manage issues responsibly and appropriately.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead, oversee and set strategy for J&J's positioning and messaging to defend the Company reputation in the U.S.
  • Act as a trusted partner to the Global Legal Organization and Senior Executives on sensitive Company matters
  • Collaborate across multi-functional teams to proactively advance Government Affairs & Policy priorities and partner closely with the Senior Director of Government Affairs Global Strategy, Operations, and Communications
  • Prepare external communications strategies in response to issues, as well as policy and government inquiries
  • Mange the development and production of a variety of communications materials, including statements, talking points, press releases and digital content Provide tactical leadership in response to issues-related media coverage of the Company
  • Demonstrate an ability to lead action internally without direct authority
  • Build trusted relationships and collaborate across diverse, multi-functional teams to successfully drive objectives
  • Define the best media relations analytics and optimal reporting methods for tracking coverage and interpreting results to better inform strategies
  • Lead a team of high-performing communications professionals and manage third-party agency relationships
  • Have a strong commitment and track record of talent identification, development and advancement

Requirements:
  • 10 - 12 years of issues, litigation, and/or policy communications experience, reflecting a strong record of success and accomplishment, with a large corporation, well-respected advisory firm, or government agency
  • Proven record of excellence in counseling and advising senior management and business leaders on complex business issues
  • Demonstrated ability to delegate, prioritize, and focus the organization on the most critical issues/projects
  • Strategic, self-directed problem solver with strong analytical skills, sound judgment and the ability to handle sensitive information with discretion
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, executive presence, and adversarial strength as needed, with the ability to project and inspire confidence
  • Strong writer and critical thinking, with the ability to develop appropriate messaging and statements to ensure fair and accurate representations of our views in the media's coverage
  • Teammate who thrives in a collaborative and fast-paced environment

The anticipated base pay range for this position is :
$150,000.00 - $258,750.00

Additional Description for Pay Transparency:
Subject to the terms of their respective plans, employees are eligible to participate in the Company's consolidated retirement plan (pension) and savings plan (401(k)).

This position is eligible to participate in the Company's long-term incentive program.

Subject to the terms of their respective policies and date of hire, employees are eligible for the following time off benefits:

Vacation -120 hours per calendar year

Sick time - 40 hours per calendar year; for employees who reside in the State of Colorado -48 hours per calendar year; for employees who reside in the State of Washington -56 hours per calendar year

Holiday pay, including Floating Holidays -13 days per calendar year

Work, Personal and Family Time - up to 40 hours per calendar year

Parental Leave - 480 hours within one year of the birth/adoption/foster care of a child

Bereavement Leave - 240 hours for an immediate family member: 40 hours for an extended family member per calendar year

Caregiver Leave - 80 hours in a 52-week rolling period10 days

Volunteer Leave - 32 hours per calendar year

Military Spouse Time-Off - 80 hours per calendar year
