About the Role
The Director, Electrical Systems Engineering oversees a team responsible for battery systems electrical design, power electronics integration, safety, validation, and cross0functional collaboration with software, electronics, testing, manufacturing engineering, projects and field services groups.
Responsibilities
Lead the development and execution of electrical system design strategies, working cross functionally with embedded engineering, electronics, manufacturing engineering, projects and field teams
Direct the development of mathematical / simulation models for power converters, switching devices, protection circuits, and system0level energy flows
Conduct electrical simulations (PSCAD, PSSE, PLECS, MATLAB/Simulink etc.) to validate system behavior, transient response, and fault0handling performance.
Establish modelling standards, simulation methodologies, and verification frameworks to ensure accuracy, repeatability, and traceability across engineering teams and across projects.
Support hardware-in-the-loop system testing (custom, RTDS, Typhoon etc.) of battery electrical systems
Work closely with the Electronics team to define requirements and designs for system electrical power and communication components.
Define requirements for surge, ESD, transient immunity, and protection coordination across the entire electrical system.
Own the electrical system design roadmap for current and future battery systems
Guide concept development, requirements definition, DFMEA, and design reviews.
Oversee prototype builds, validation testing, and design-for-manufacturability.
Build and mentor a high0performance team of electrical system and modeling engineers with deep technical specialization.
Knowledge, Skill, and Abilities
Advanced knowledge of high voltage DC systems, power conversion topologies, and grid0connected inverter behavior
Advanced knowledge of BMS architecture and algorithms, including SOC/SOH estimation, cell balancing, fault detection, and prognostics
Advanced knowledge of power systems modeling and simulation, with deep expertise in SPICE, PLECS, MATLAB/Simulink, and multi0domain co0simulation
Proven track record of delivering complex electrical systems from concept through production.
Strong understanding of protection strategies, transient behavior, and fault0tolerant design.
Exceptional communication, leadership, and cross0functional collaboration skills.
Education and Experience
Bachelor0s degree in electrical or electronics engineering required
Master0s degree in electrical or electronics engineering preferred

Working Conditions
Office Environment - Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time and occasionally move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.Required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading. May be required to exert up to 25 pounds of force occasionally to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body.
Factory - The worker may be subject to hazards. Includes a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, vibration, moving vehicles, electrical current, exposure to temperature changes or exposure to chemicals. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to fumes, airborne particles, odors, dust, mists, and gases. The noise level in the work environment can be loud. Required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading; visual inspection involving small defects, small parts, and/or operation of machines (including inspection); using measurement devices; and/or assembly or fabrication parts at distances close to the eyes. Machinery operation requires the use of safety equipment to include but not limited to eye safety glasses, hearing protectors, work boots, and lab coats. May be required to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body.
Customer/Partner Locations 6 Employee may visit customer or partner locations that may be comprised of office, manufacturing floor, laboratory environments and construction sites depending on the location and reason for visit.
