The base salary range for this position is dependent upon experience and location, ranging from:

Rochester, Binghamton, and Vestal, NY - $156,000 - $195,000

Orange, CT - $171,000 - $214,000

Augusta and Portland, ME - $156,000 - $195,000

Job Summary:

The Director, Operational Technology Projects within the Projects and Processes Control Center organization leads a group of technical project managers responsible for primarily delivering Operational Technology (OT) data center and Energy Control Center-related projects. The Projects and Processes Control Center organization is responsible for executing critical OT systems and infrastructure projects (e.g., near real-time operating control systems, next-generation AMI, data center construction and relocations, substation automation, line sensors) to help enable grid modernization across Avangrid. This position requires applying strategic thinking, technical expertise, and supervisory experience to execute projects in close collaboration with multiple organizations, particularly Electric and Gas Operations, IT, and Operational Smart Grids (e.g., Control Systems & Automation, Smart Metering, Infrastructure & Compliance, and Telecommunications) in Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, and New York.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provides strategic direction to, and long-term planning for their team.

  • Works with PPCC leadership to deliver on budgeting, team objectives and performance management, contractor and vendor management, performance reporting, portfolio management, and regulatory and contractual compliance.

  • Directs the execution of projects end-to-end from development through deployment and close-out including transition to operations as needed.

  • Supports (and leads where needed) their project managers with cross-functional teams on the development of project scope, technical requirements, various plans (e.g., project, testing, training, transition, resource), and project close-out documentation including lessons learned.

  • Accountable for delivering projects on time and within budget including measurement and tracking of project plan progression, risks, and milestones.

  • Accountable for their teams project financials, including budget development and variance tracking, benefit-cost analyses, and forecasts.

  • Spearheads innovative technical solutions for the department.

  • Advances the departments technical knowledge and professional development.

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree with a minimum of 10 years of relevant work experience required.

  • Experience leading IT and/or OT (e.g., telecommunications, network or systems engineering, applications support, data center infrastructure, energy control systems, smart metering) project management and/or operations teams required.

Demonstrated experience in at least one of the following areas required:

  • Data center engineering, planning, site selection, construction, project management, and/or operations.

  • Energy Control Center-related applications (e.g., EMS, OMS, ADMS applications, iTOA).

  • Experience navigating procurement processes, including the development of RFPs and contract requirements, required.

  • Experience with budgeting, forecasting, invoicing, and payment and accrual processes required.

  • Proficiency in project management software (e.g., Microsoft Project, Primavera, Smartsheet), Microsoft Office, and SAP required.

  • Demonstrated track record of driving decision-making, learning new technologies and systems, and building cross-functional relationships with key stakeholders required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in electric and/or gas utilities is strongly preferred.

  • Related certifications (e.g., PMP, Lean Six Sigma, PE) preferred.
