Overview:

Summary:

Chatham's independent Debt Valuation team is seeking a Director to serve as a senior technical and client-facing leader. This role combines deep knowledge of valuation principles and methodologies with the judgment and client-service skills needed to manage complex debt valuation engagements from initial scoping through final delivery. You will independently manage a portfolio of engagements, serve as a trusted advisor to senior client stakeholders, provide well-supported perspectives on debt valuation methodology and market practice, and represent Chatham's expertise in interactions with clients and auditors. You will also contribute to the continued development of the Debt Valuation team by strengthening processes, tools, quality standards, and technical capabilities.

In this role you will:
  • Own the delivery of fair value analyses for complex debt instruments on behalf of institutional clients, from engagement scoping through final deliverable.
  • Apply and support valuation methodologies across a range of debt structures, clearly articulating the principles and assumptions underlying valuation conclusions.
  • Interpret complex loan agreements, credit documentation, and financial statements to identify valuation-critical inputs and structural considerations that affect value.
  • Build, review, and enhance valuation models, ensuring methodologies and assumptions appropriately reflect current market conditions and withstand client and auditor scrutiny.
  • Serve as a primary point of contact with auditors, addressing methodology questions and supporting audit and financial reporting cycles, including matters related to ASC 820.
  • Manage relationships with senior client stakeholders, presenting valuation conclusions, addressing questions and differing perspectives, and building trusted relationships.
  • Monitor capital markets, credit spreads, and interest rate trends to maintain current and well-supported valuation assumptions.
  • Identify and drive improvements to valuation processes, tools, and quality control standards.
  • Mentor colleagues and provide technical guidance that contributes to the capabilities and expertise of the broader team.

Your impact:
  • Serve as a trusted technical and client-facing leader within Chatham's Debt Valuation practice, helping clients navigate complex valuation and financial reporting matters.
  • Partner with clients and auditors to clearly communicate and support valuation methodologies, assumptions, and conclusions.
  • Work across Chatham's debt management, technology, and broader valuation teams to deliver integrated solutions and bring relevant expertise to complex client engagements.
  • Apply technical expertise and market perspective to strengthen the quality, consistency, and credibility of Chatham's debt valuation work.
  • Help advance the Debt Valuation practice by identifying opportunities to improve methodologies, processes, technology, tools, and quality controls.
  • Strengthen the broader team by mentoring colleagues, sharing technical expertise, and contributing to the continued development of valuation capabilities.
  • Build trusted relationships with senior client stakeholders while contributing to Chatham's presence and expertise in debt valuation methodology and market practice.

Contributors to your success:
  • 8+ years of experience in valuation, credit, fixed income analytics, commercial real estate, or a closely related field.
  • Deep knowledge of valuation methodologies and underlying principles, with the ability to clearly explain and support valuation approaches and conclusions.
  • Demonstrated experience managing client engagements end to end, including direct interaction with senior client stakeholders and auditors.
  • Advanced Excel modeling skills, including discounted cash flow and scenario analysis.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex valuation methodologies and technical concepts into clear, credible explanations for clients and auditors.
  • Experience interpreting source documents such as loan agreements, credit agreements, and financial statements.
  • Strong judgment and analytical skills, including the ability to navigate complex valuation questions and develop well-supported conclusions.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across teams and provide technical guidance and mentorship to colleagues.
  • CFA designation or progress toward the designation is preferred.
  • Experience with ASC 820 fair value reporting is preferred.
  • Exposure to debt capital markets, loan trading, or structured finance is preferred.
  • Prior experience in valuation advisory, consulting, or an audit-adjacent capacity is preferred.
