Position Summary...What you'll do...Position ResponsibilitiesAs Director, Data Science, you will lead and develop a team that enables Walmart Marketplace. This role is focused on technical and thought leadership, people development and operational process optimization-translating strategy into execution by aligning cross-functional partners, contributing to marketplace KPIs.
Position Requirements- Very good knowledge of the foundations of machine learning and statistics
- Experience in building large scale ML systems involving machine learning, supervised and unsupervised and deep learning.
- Hands on experience in Computer Visions and NLP. Gen AI, Agentic AI
- Lead, mentor and grow a team of data scientists, ML engineers and data analysts dedicated to Marketplace initiatives across seller lifecycle.
- Partner with product, engineering, merchandising, and business stakeholders to identify opportunities and align on strategic initiatives.
- Partner with other cross location data science teams to ensure continuous development and monitoring of Marketplace ML models.
- Oversee the end-to-end data science lifecycle: problem scoping, literature review, model design, algorithmic optimization, engineering integration, deployment, monitoring, and impact measurement.
- Drive AI innovation in marketplace AI models, including experimentation with new models and algorithms to improve accuracy and efficiency.
- Ensure robust model governance, model monitoring, reproducibility, and ethical AI practices.
- Communicate complex technical concepts and business impact effectively to technical and non-technical stakeholders, including senior leadership.
- Communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences and executive leadership.
- Stay current with industry trends and emerging technologies in data science and AI.
Qualifications - Masters > 14 years OR Ph.D. in Comp Science/Statistics/Mathematics with > 12 years of relevant experience. Educational qualifications should be Computer Science/Statistics/Mathematics or a related area.
- Experience of acting as a people lead for > 5 years

The annual salary range for this position is $156,000.00 - $312,000.00
Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses.

Option 3: 8 years' experience in an analytics or related field
