Overview
The Director, Data Center provides leadership for large-scale mechanical construction operations across one or more buildings on complex data center campuses. This role is accountable for delivering projects safely, on schedule, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.
This role requires a proven leader capable of managing complex, high-value mechanical construction programs with large field labor forces. Success in this position is defined by the ability to consistently deliver safe, high-quality projects while maintaining strict financial discipline and developing strong, scalable teams.
Responsibilities
• Safety Leadership• Establishes and reinforces a zero-incident safety culture across the campus.• Ensures strict adherence to all company, customer, and regulatory safety standards.• Leads proactive risk identification, mitigation planning, and continuous safety improvement initiatives.• Strategic Planning and Coordination• Develops and implements comprehensive execution strategies that align with company objectives and customer expectations.• Optimizes workforce planning, resource allocation, and logistics for multiple large-scale projects on one campus.• Ensures effective coordination between field teams, suppliers, and the customer.• Operational and Field Execution• Directs all aspects of mechanical construction execution for large-scale, multi-million-dollar data center projects.• Oversees field operations involving large craft labor forces (100+ personnel) and integrated management and supervisory teams.• Ensures work is executed efficiently, safely, and in alignment with project schedules and contract requirements.• Leadership and Team Development• Leads, mentors, and develops a team consisting of managers, superintendents, safety, quality control, and pre-commissioning personnel.• Builds strong field leadership to effectively manage large craft workforces.• Customer and Stakeholder Management• Serves as the senior point of contact for customers, ensuring strong relationships and high customer satisfaction.• Provides regular high-level updates on project status, risks, and financial performance to company executives.• Proactively resolves issues and drives alignment across stakeholders.• Financial and Commercial Management• Owns full P&L responsibility for assigned projects and campus programs.• Manages budgets, forecasts, labor productivity, and cost controls to ensure projects are delivered to maximize profitability• Analyzes KPIs including labor performance, cost reports, billings, and cash flow. Develops and implements corrective action plans as needed.• Quality and Technical Excellence• Embraces a culture of quality, ensuring all installations meet or exceed design specifications and industry standards.• Drives implementation of quality control programs and ensures consistent field compliance.• Partners with start-up and commissioning teams to ensure successful system turnover.• Continuous Improvement• Identifies and implements best practices to improve safety, productivity, quality, and profitability.• Leverages lessons learned across projects to drive operational excellence.• Fosters a culture of innovation and accountability within teams.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
• 3+ years of experience working in data center or industrial environments involving complex, multi-system piping installation.• 10+ years of proven, verifiable experience in Profit and Loss (P&L) management.• Strong understanding of industry concepts, practices, and principles.• Strong experience in modular construction and fabricated mechanical/plumbing systems.• Demonstrated ability to perform complex tasks while adhering to established processes and methodologies.• Proven leadership skills, including directing team activities and exercising full authority in personnel-related decisions.• Experience administering established policies and procedures, with the ability to contribute to departmental budgeting, strategic planning, and process improvement initiatives.• Demonstrated capability in developing accurate and reliable financial forecasts at project completion.• Ability to effectively manage P&L performance, including preparation and reporting of monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial projections.• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.• Demonstrated ability to drive process standardization, system adoption, and operational improvement at scale.• Strong attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.• In-depth knowledge of the industry landscape, including key competitors.• Flexible and adaptable, with the ability to manage changes in a complex work environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
• 5+ years of experience in mechanical and plumbing construction in Data Center project environments• 10+ years of experience in large commercial mechanical construction projects with contract values more than $25,000,000.• Associates Degree or higher in Engineering, Construction Management, or related degree• Mechanical, Plumbing, and/or HVAC Contractors License
