Leads developing and deploying NFCU Lending CECL and credit risk predictive models, post-model adjustment, advanced analytics, and advanced statistical techniques, solutions and actionable insights that deliver business impacts. Develops strategic priorities, shapes analytical approaches, ensures model quality and performance and ensures alignment with corporate initiatives and goals. Manage daily activities of professional employees. Work is performed under limited supervision.

Responsibilities- Manage, lead, and mentor teams of data scientists and analysts in developing advanced statistical models, algorithms, and data mining techniques translating business problems into advanced modeling approaches in support business initiatives
- Lead end-to-end CECL model development, implementation, execution, monitoring, documentation, and governance for consumer lending portfolios.
- Oversee the development of robust credit risk policies, ensuring they are aligned with regulatory requirements, industry best practices, and the organization's financial and strategic goals.
- Communicate key credit and financial insights to senior leadership, advising on adjustments to credit risk strategies and lending decisions based on emerging trends, financial risks, and market conditions.
- Present advanced analytical models and strategic insights to the executive team, influencing decisions on portfolio management and credit risk strategy, with a focus on financial impact.
- Monitor and report on credit risk performance, ensuring that it aligns with financial objectives and corporate risk appetite, and make recommendations for improvement.
- Ensure the effectiveness of credit risk management practices, incorporating advanced analytical techniques, financial modeling, and forecasting tools to optimize performance.
- Lead the integration of new data sources and analytics into the credit risk management process, including the application of machine learning and Al techniques to improve credit assessments and financial predictions.
- Collaborate with, advise, and counsel key stakeholders on complex credit risk issues; provide guidance and feedback to business units throughout credit risk lifecycles.
- Collaborates with senior leadership to design actionable risk mitigation strategies and business intelligence to drive the sustainable growth of NFCU's lending products.
- Supervise and mentor the credit risk team, providing guidance on both credit risk analysis and financial performance assessments to develop talent and enhance organizational capabilities.
Qualifications- College/university degree and 10-15+ years work experience with credit risk assessments at a large financial institution; 6+ years of management experience
- Expert knowledge of underwriting/credit risk processes and interactions between consumer behaviors and macroeconomic environment.
- Expert knowledge of applicable federal and state laws, rules and regulations
- Expert knowledge of banking/financial industry trends, products and services
- Expert knowledge of debit and/or credit card fraud issues, patterns and processes
- Extensive experience in developing strategy and conducting deep dive analytics in consumer lending space across the credit lifecycle.
- Expert experience demonstrating thought-leadership, initiative-taking, decision making and creativity solving business problems
- Experience managing multiple priorities independently and/or in a team environment to achieve goals
- Expert knowledge of methodologies used to measure, model, and simulate credit risk, regulatory risk, and risk exposure in relevant lending product types.
- Advanced experience in analyzing data to identify red flags for operational credit risks
- Advanced skill influencing and building consensus with business partners and providing credible challenge with diplomacy and tact while driving strategic outcomes
- Broad experience working with all levels of staff, management, stakeholders, vendors
- Leadership expertise in managing credit risk teams in high-stakes, high-volume environments
- Advanced skill in data analytics and programming languages (SQL, R, Python, Hadoop, SAS, SPSS, Scala, AWS)
Desired Qualifications- Advanced degree (Master's or Ph.D.) in quantitative discipline or related field or equivalent combination of training, education and experience.
- Advanced knowledge of Navy Federal's functions, philosophy, operations and organizational objectives
- Advanced knowledge of CECL reserving, credit loss forecasting, and Model Risk Management guidelines.
- Extensive experience with consumer lending portfolios such as credit card, auto, secured consumer lending, unsecured consumer lending, mortgage, or home equity.
- Expert in loan-level or account-level credit loss modeling techniques, including probability of default, loss given default, exposure at default, prepayment, survival/hazard, and competing risk models.
- Expert in implementing controlled model production processes, including version control, data validation, reconciliation, monitoring, documentation, and change management.
- Experience responding to Model Risk Management validation, internal audit, external audit, regulatory, accounting, or control review questions.
- Advanced knowledge of applicable federal and state laws, rules, and regulations that govern credit cards, secured consumer lending, and unsecured consumer lending.
- Advanced knowledge of banking and financial industry trends, products, services, credit cycles, portfolio performance drivers, and reserve implications.
- Extensive experience leading and managing an analytics or quantitative modeling operation in a large financial institution, including operational, regulatory, model risk, and control considerations.
- Expert research, data mining/querying, analysis, and reporting skills, including proficiency in sophisticated statistical methods, modeling, forecasting, and cost/benefit/risk analysis.
- Extensive experience demonstrating thought leadership, sound judgment, decision-making, and creativity in solving business problems.
- Extensive experience working with all levels of staff, management, stakeholders, vendors, control partners, and executive audiences.
- Expert skill presenting findings, conclusions, alternatives, model limitations, and recommendations clearly and concisely to variety of stakeholders.
- Expert skill to influence, negotiate, and persuade to reach agreeable exchange and positive outcomes.
