About this opportunity:Reporting to the Senior Vice President, Operations Controller, the Director, Conventional Finance is a key leadership role within the Controllers organization. This position leads a team responsible for the day-to-day accounting of Conventional business activities while overseeing the development, measurement, and delivery of business plans aligned with both Corporate and Conventional business strategies. As a member of the Conventional business unit finance leadership team, the Director serves as a strategic partner for executive leadership, providing financial insight and guidance to support decision-making. This role also collaborates closely with Finance & Risk and Strategy & Planning teams to lead the monthly financial and operational review process-assessing performance against plan, identifying material variances, and driving alignment on mitigation strategies to close gaps.
What you'll do: - Lead day-to-day accounting, financial reporting, and internal controls for the Conventional business, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and audit readiness
- Partner with business leaders to monitor financial and operational performance, analyze variances, and drive corrective actions to achieve plan
- Deliver clear, cohesive reporting and insights (quantitative and qualitative) to senior leadership, including monthly performance reviews and Board-level reporting
- Oversee forecasting, budgeting, and long-range planning processes, ensuring alignment with corporate strategy, capital framework, and business priorities
- Translate strategic objectives into actionable financial plans, targets, and value creation initiatives across production, capital, operating, and G&A spend
- Lead cross-functional collaboration with Finance & Risk, Strategy & Planning, HR, and business teams to align on performance, workforce planning, and investment priorities
- Maintain and prioritize capital investment tracking (adds/cuts) and support Investment Committee decision-making
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and support external financial disclosures, including quarterly and annual statements and MD&A
- Align business planning inputs and methodologies with corporate standards, including price decks, evaluation frameworks, and risk assumptions
- Build, coach, and develop a high-performing team, fostering accountability, clarity, and continuous development
Who you are:Our ideal candidate will have the following minimum requirements:
- Legally authorized to work in Canada
- Minimum of 15+ years of relevant industry experience
- Strong financial acumen with a focus on value creation through asset development, planning and execution, and economic evaluation of trade-offs
- Extensive knowledge of upstream oil and gas, including development, production, projects, and operations
- Solid understanding of market expectations and key value drivers from an external shareholder perspective
- Advanced analytical and economic modeling capabilities
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively at senior leadership and Board levels
- Proven ability to work both independently and collaboratively with senior leaders
- Ability to distill complex information into clear, concise messaging for internal and external audiences
- Skilled at influencing and leveraging subject matter expertise across the organization
