Job Description:

  • Leads inpatient and/or outpatient coding operations to achieve enterprise performance targets for throughput, DNFB, productivity, and turnaround time.
  • Establishes and enforces standardized workflow management practices, including prioritization, queue management and escalation protocols
  • Drives DNFB reduction through proactive management of coding volumes, aging, backlog mitigation, and operational barriers impacting final billing
  • Ensure timely coding of encounters to support claim submission, DRG and APC integrity, and revenue cycle performance
  • Oversees productivity and throughput performance across service lines, accounting for variability in ICD-10-CM/PCS and/or CPT/HCPCS coding complexity
  • Identifies workflow inefficiencies impacting coding performance and implements standardized operational improvements across coding teams.
  • Leads backlog management and surge response strategies to maintain operational stability during volume fluctuations
  • Escalates documentation, system staffing, or operational barriers impacting coding completion and workflow performance
  • Partners with Revenue Integrity, CDI, and Education teams to integrate audit findings, regulatory requirements, and coding accuracy insights into operational improvements.
  • Partners with Technology, Automation & Workforce Optimization to align systems, workflows, queue design, and staffing strategies with operational demand
  • Collaborate with Coding Quality & Audit and Education & Growth to improve ICD-10-CM/PCS and/or CPT/HCPCS coding accuracy and consistency
  • Ensures compliance with coding standards and regulatory requirements specific to inpatient ICD-10-CM/PCS, CPT/HPCS coding, modifier assignment and DRG/APC assignment
  • Leads and develops Managers and coding leadership teams, ensuring alignment to enterprise goals, coding standards, and operational expectations
  • Provides reporting and insights on DNFB, productivity, turnaround time, coding trends, and operational risks to senior leadership
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Proficient experience with EMR systems (Epic preferred). [Required]
  • DNFB management, productivity management and turnaround time optimization [Required]
  • Ability to analyze workflows and recommend informatics-based improvements. [Required]
  • Proficiency in Microsoft 365 office products [Required]
  • Data analysis, KPI interpretation, and executive reporting [Required]
