DIRECTOR OF CLINICAL OPERATIONS

Location: Matawan, NJ (On-Site with Regular Travel to Clinics)
Department: Practice Operations
Reports To: Chief Operating Officer (COO)

Position Summary

The Director of Clinical Operations is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations and performance of all Alliance clinics. Reporting directly to the COO, this leader ensures operational consistency, service excellence, compliance, and execution across the organization.

The Director of Clinical Operations serves as the senior operational leader responsible for the systems, processes, and teams that support the delivery of care across the organization. This includes oversight of clinic operations, patient access and front-office teams, provider support services, call center, credentialing, and quality assurance.

The Director ensures these functions operate with consistency, efficiency, accountability, and excellence while identifying opportunities to improve performance and support organizational growth.

This role works in close partnership with physicians, clinical leaders, revenue cycle, corporate enabling functions, and executive leadership to align operational priorities, remove barriers, and ensure an exceptional experience for patients, providers, and team members.

Success in this role requires a leader who can balance operational discipline with relationship-building, drive accountability while fostering collaboration, and identify opportunities to improve efficiency without compromising the patient experience.

The Director of Clinical Operations plays a vital role in ensuring that Alliance clinics consistently deliver exceptional care, hospitality, and operational excellence at scale.

Key Responsibilities

Operational Leadership & Clinic Performance

  • Lead the operational performance of all clinic locations.
  • Establish and maintain consistent operational standards, workflows, and service expectations across the organization.
  • Drive accountability for clinic performance, productivity, patient flow, scheduling efficiency, and operational execution.
  • Monitor operational KPIs and develop action plans to improve performance where needed.
  • Ensure a consistent patient experience across all locations.
  • Identify operational inefficiencies and implement scalable solutions that improve outcomes and reduce friction.
  • Partner with executive leadership on strategic initiatives, growth plans, and operational expansion efforts


Team Leadership

  • Directly lead and develop Senior Operations Managers across all clinic locations.
  • Ensure consistent leadership practices, communication, accountability, and performance management throughout the organization.
  • Foster a culture of operational excellence, collaboration, professionalism, and continuous improvement.
  • Provide coaching and development to operational leaders to strengthen leadership capabilities and succession planning.
  • Drive organizational alignment around priorities, expectations, and performance standards.


Clinical Support Operations

  • Provide oversight of Clinical Coordinators and Physician Extenders who support physicians and providers throughout the patient care journey.
  • Ensure operational workflows effectively support provider productivity and patient care delivery.
  • Partner with physicians and operational leaders to identify opportunities for improved collaboration and support.
  • Ensure resources are appropriately allocated to meet patient and provider needs.


Front Office & Patient Experience

  • Oversee clinic front-office operations through Senior Operations Managers and Health Impact Team Coordinators (HITCs).
  • Ensure excellence in patient access, scheduling, registration, communication, and service delivery.
  • Establish standards that reflect Alliance's commitment to hospitality and patient-centered care.
  • Monitor patient feedback and operational trends to drive improvements in the overall patient experience.


Credentialing & Compliance Oversight

  • Provide leadership oversight to the Credentialing function.
  • Ensure providers maintain required licenses, certifications, privileges, enrollments, and regulatory compliance requirements.
  • Partner with legal, compliance, and executive leadership to mitigate organizational risk.
  • Ensure credentialing processes support organizational growth and provider onboarding timelines.


Quality Assurance & Continuous Improvement

  • Provide leadership oversight to the Quality Assurance team.
  • Partner closely with QA leaders to identify trends, opportunities, and operational improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure operational standards align with quality expectations and organizational goals.
  • Drive a culture of accountability, measurement, and continuous improvement.
  • Utilize data and performance metrics to enhance operational effectiveness and service delivery.


Cross-Functional Partnership

  • Collaborate closely with physicians, clinical directors, human resources, finance, marketing, revenue cycle management, and executive leadership.
  • Serve as a trusted operational partner to stakeholders across the organization.
  • Lead cross-functional initiatives that improve organizational performance, scalability, and patient outcomes.
  • Support new clinic openings, acquisitions, integrations, and growth initiatives as needed.


Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, Healthcare Management, or related field
  • 8+ years of progressive healthcare operations leadership experience.
  • 5+ years leading multi-site healthcare operations.
  • Experience managing operational leaders and large, geographically dispersed teams.
  • Strong understanding of healthcare operations, patient access, provider support functions, compliance, and service excellence.
  • Demonstrated success driving operational improvements and organizational change.
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, collaboration, and relationship-building skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.


Preferred

  • Master's degree in Healthcare Administration (MHA), MBA, or related field.
  • Experience within orthopedic, musculoskeletal, ambulatory, or physician practice environments.
  • Experience supporting rapid organizational growth and multi-location expansion.
  • Lean, Six Sigma, or process improvement experience.
