BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES: This position is located in the Office of the Chief Financial Officer (OCFO), Office of Financial Operations and Systems (OFOS). The incumbent oversees accountability and direction for all central accounting functions and serves as a principal advisor to the Deputy CFO for Financial Operations and Systems and the Deputy Controller on matters related to maintaining and controlling the District's automated general ledger. The role also provides expert guidance in the planning, development, and implementation of new accounting systems, processes, and enhancements. Duties include, but are not limited to: leading District-wide accounting operations; ensuring compliance, process improvement, and strong internal controls; providing guidance to agencies; advising senior leadership; and overseeing financial reporting, staffing, and performance management. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Eight (8) years of progressive experience performing related duties and responsibilities such as overseeing the operations for a large-scale public sector or government accounting organization; conducting detailed assessments of accounting practices, business processes, and financial data to identify deficiencies and implement solutions; and collaborating, guiding, and directing others toward established goals. Incumbent must also have an expert level of knowledge of accounting standards and techniques, financial reporting concepts, principles, and laws. At least two (2) years of experience leading and managing staff at various levels.

In addition - Applicant must have a bachelor's degree earned at an accredited US institution in accounting or related field such as business administration, finance, or public administration that included or was supplemented by 24 semester hours in accounting.This can include up to six (6) hours of business law. Applicants must submit an official transcript that verifies a degree in accounting or related field and 24 semester credit hours in accounting in order to be considered. If applicable, your application package must include a foreign credential course by course evaluation of all foreign transcripts.Acceptable foreign credential equivalency reports must be provided by organizations that have current membership with the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES) or the Association of International Credential Evaluators (AICE).
Specialized Experience

Experience that provides the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for this position.
