Full Job Description
The Director of Capital Projects & Construction is responsible for leading the planning, development, construction, and successful delivery of BHI's capital projects across the organization. This position provides strategic and technical leadership for capital improvements, renovations, expansions, new construction, infrastructure projects, and other significant capital investments from initial concept and feasibility through design, construction, commissioning, and closeout.

In This Role You Will:

  • Lead planning and development of major capital projects, including new construction, community expansion, renovations, infrastructure improvements, equipment installations and other significant capital investments more than $2,000,000.
  • Lead and oversee the selection, engagement, and performance of general contractors, subcontractors, architects, engineers, construction managers, and other project partners.
  • Review construction plans, specifications, schedules, budgets, scopes of work, bids, proposals, and change orders to identify potential cost, schedule, quality, and constructability issues.
  • Provide oversight of general contractor performance to ensure compliance with contract requirements, approved plans and specifications, project schedules, budgets, quality standards, and safety expectations.
  • Monitor construction progress through site visits, project meetings, inspections, reporting, and other appropriate oversight activities.
  • Develop and manage project budgets of more than $100,000 in capital investments.
  • Monitor committed costs, expenditures, forecasts, contingencies, allowances, and projected final costs.
  • Identify opportunities for cost optimization and value engineering while maintaining project objectives and quality.
  • Establish and maintain project schedules from pre-development through construction, commissioning, turnover, and closeout.
  • Monitor compliance with applicable building codes, accessibility requirements, environmental requirements, and other regulatory standards.
  • Develop and manage relationships with architects, engineers, general contractors, subcontractors, consultants, suppliers, and other external partners.
  • Lead or support RFP development, bid solicitation, contractor selection, contract negotiations, and contract administration.


Who You Are

    • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Project Management, Architecture, Facilities Management, Business, or a related field.
    • 10+ years of progressive experience in construction, large-scale capital project management, development, or a related field, including significant experience overseeing general contractors and complex construction projects.
    • Demonstrated experience managing capital projects from planning and design through construction, commissioning, and closeout.
    • Demonstrated knowledge of construction methods, project scheduling, estimating, cost control, contracts, change orders, quality control, and construction risk management.
    • Demonstrated experience managing project budgets, schedules, and cross-functional teams.
    • Strong understanding of applicable building codes, permitting, inspections, safety requirements, and construction standards.
    • Strong knowledge of project management methodologies and tools.


    Preferred:

    • PMP (Project Management Professional) certification.
    • General contractor, construction management, or owner's representative experience.
    • Experience in manufacturing, healthcare, or other multi-site environments.
    • Knowledge of construction management, facility development, and real estate expansion projects.
    • Experience managing projects exceeding $1 million in capital investment.
