Full Job Description
POSITION TITLE: Director - Engineering and Technology REPORTS TO: SVP - Engineering and Technology LOCATION: HOUSTON, TX REVISED: 6/26 PURPOSE: We are seeking a Utility Scale Solar Project Engineer who will be responsible for the development, execution and delivery of a utility-scale solar projects located in ERCOT and MISO. This role manages the project engineering from early-stage development (pre-FID) through engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, and commercial operation. The ideal candidate possesses strong technical knowledge, commercial awareness, leadership capability, and experience managing complex utility-scale energy projects. ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES: (Must be able to perform these responsibilities with or without reasonable accommodation.) • Manage and coordinate multidiscipline engineering, design and construction management activities and services for various projects undertaken by DGC, including field/site oversight. Responsible for managing equipment supply and construction contracts. • Provide technical information and data to Development, Asset Management and Operations to obtain new and/or maintain existing local, state, and federal permits and licenses. • Prepare all technical specifications, performance documents, and financial cost estimates for proposed new facilities or major modifications and repairs to existing facilities. Prepare legal and technical portions of equipment supply agreements and engineering, procurement and construction contracts. • Review technical and environmental performance of construction projects and existing facilities. Ensure the project(s) conforms to approved Basis of Design and applicable regulatory and code requirements. • Maintain contact with equipment vendors and contractors for technical improvements and identification of generic equipment problems. • Monitor markets for equipment pricing for various types and technologies along with new technologies that can potentially be used for power generation. • Provide technical assistance and advice to affiliated entities (DGC Mexico, Nexamp and BETM) as requested. • Lead technical / environmental due diligence for potential acquisitions. • Assist Asset Management, Operations, and/or Development with technical, engineering or estimating activities. • Must have the ability to act as a trusted advisor to our staff and partners and colleagues. Trusted by colleagues to understand / collaborate / educate. Responsive to other areas of the business • Provide engineering, procurement, and construction management services for various projects undertaken by DGC, including field/site oversight. • Review and comment on legal, commercial, and technical portions of the engineering consulting service, equipment supply, construction, or EPC (Engineering, Procurement, Construction) contracts. Responsible for bids solicitation and contracts management. • Review and comment on preliminary and conceptual engineering information including technical specifications, performance documents, project schedules, and cost estimates for IPP project bid proposals, installation of proposed new facilities, or major modification/repair of existing facilities. • Lead technical and environmental due diligence for potential acquisitions integrating these efforts into the overall due diligence and approval process. • Review technical and environmental performance of construction projects and existing facilities. • Provide technical support to Business and Project Development to obtain new local, state, and federal permits and licenses. • Provide technical support for Operation and Maintenance for trouble shooting, root cause analysis, and plant betterment; along with maintaining existing local, state and federal permits and licenses. • Provide technical assistance and advice to Asset management. • Flexibility to manage multiple projects and priorities to meet specific project goals. • Maintain contact with equipment vendors and contractors for identification of generic equipment problems and technical improvements. • Monitor markets for equipment pricing for various types of technologies along with new technologies that can potentially be used for betterment of existing facilities. • Prefer experience in utility scale solar projects (>50MW). REQUIREMENTS OF POSITION: • Bachelor's degree in engineering discipline. • 8-15 years' experience in design, engineering, construction and startup of power generating facilities. Experience in proposal preparation and RFP responses. • Ability to implement project execution plans as required by company policy and procedures. Solutions are derived from knowledge gained through past external experiences and internal resources, including policies and procedures. The ability to effectively communicate and present complex program proposals and reports to senior level management is critical. Ability to persuade and influence others is critical. • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English are critical. • Self-motivation, team-oriented work practices, and strong data analysis & technical problem solving expertise. • Experience in developing proposals and interview material for new project pursuits. • Will interface with lower level personnel, upper level management, customers, and outside vendors. • Ability to maintain confidential information is critical. • Commitment and ability to work in a team-oriented environment • Able to walk up multiple flights of stairs. • Ability to travel within the United States and International. Salary Range: $203,000.00 - $270,000.00
