About the RoleAs a Director at ATB Capital, you'll be instrumental in building, coaching, and leading a high-performing team of Junior Capital professionals. You will serve as a key leader within the ATB Cormark Capital Markets team, playing a critical role in:
- Leading the growth and execution of our junior debt and unitranche solutions.
- Driving their delivery to both ATB's established client base and forging new, impactful market relationships.
Accountabilities- Managing performance expectations, coaching talent, and driving the team to meet defined financial and sales targets.
- Direct and lead the origination, structuring, negotiation, and underwriting of complex junior debt and unitranche transactions to facilitate leveraged buy-outs, corporate acquisitions, management buy-outs, and leveraged recapitalizations.
- Oversee and optimize a robust portfolio management process that encompasses reporting, covenant compliance, and overall portfolio performance.
- Develop and grow a network of referral sources in the Private Equity, Transaction Advisory and Corporate Finance sectors.
- Develop and maintain a strong and ongoing relationship with the Corporate Bank and ATB Business to ensure seamless delivery of advisory based services to our clients.
- Work with the MD, ATB Capital in developing the business's strategic direction, new product offerings and new opportunities.
- Ensure seamless coordination between ATB Capital and both the Business Banking and Corporate Banking teams, maintaining strong working relationships across ATB.
- Execute a multi-coverage (cross-sell) model with existing and potential clients to maximize ATB's share of wallet and customer experience.
- Monitor client industries and regulatory agencies for potential risks or changes that may affect portfolios.
- Embed risk management, internal controls, and compliance into day-to-day operations and team accountabilities.
Skills, Experience & Requirements- 7 - 10+ years of experience in Corporate, Commercial, or Investment Banking, including a strong track record in the origination, underwriting, and oversight of Junior Debt, Private Credit or Private Equity.
- 5+ years of direct people leadership experience, with a proven ability to manage, motivate, and develop a highly skilled team while fostering a strong culture.
- Post-secondary education in business or economics, with a focus on finance, marketing and sales management. Related Graduate level degree (MBA), CFA, CBV and/or CPA designation would be an asset.
- Proven track record of generating new business, building market credibility, and meeting/exceeding growth targets.
- Extensive due diligence and structuring experience related to Junior Capital or Private Credit transactions.
- An established network of professional contacts within the Canadian private equity and corporate finance ecosystems.
- Exceptional communication, presentation, and negotiation skills, with the ability to influence key stakeholders and build consensus.
- Flexibility to participate in client events during evenings and weekends, and travel as required.
- Results-oriented mindset with a strong blend of analytical depth, interpersonal skills, and innovative thinking.
