This is a hybrid position with a mix of in-office and remote work. Work arrangements will be discussed with hiring managers per departmental guidelines.

 

Your Role

 

The Director, AI Governance and Adoption is responsible for driving the evolution of the enterprise AI governance framework, and facilitating the responsible adoption of artificial intelligence technologies across the organization. Acting as a strategic partner to executives and business teams, this individual supports the identification of opportunities, the integration of value-creating solutions and the development of an AI-literate culture. The incumbent also oversees the development of the practices, policies and governance mechanisms required to ensure the responsible and sustainable use of artificial intelligence technologies.

 

Key Responsibilities

 

Governance, Policy & Risk Management

• Define and enforce corporate AI policies, directives, and guardrails across all business units.
• Operationalize risk controls and decision accountabilities across the entire AI lifecycle (procurement, data retrieval, tool actions, and human oversight).
• Build and maintain a central inventory of all internal and third-party AI assets to track systemic risk.

 

Shadow AI & Secure Experimentation

• Audit unsanctioned AI tools ("shadow AI") across departments and facilitate the transition of use cases into secure enterprise environments.
• Partner with tech teams to set safety guardrails for low-code/no-code tools, allowing employees to experiment safely.

 

Leadership, Committees & Alignment

• Lead the AI Usage Oversight Committee and coordinate the enterprise AI Steering Committee.
• Align AI initiatives with Legal, Privacy, InfoSec, Data Governance, and Journalistic Standards to ensure regulatory compliance.

 

Adoption, Enablement & Literacy

• Develop training programs, playbooks, office hours, and champion networks to boost organization-wide AI literacy.
• Help business units integrate deployed AI solutions into their everyday production workflows.

 

Workflow Re-Engineering & Value Tracking

• Direct a cross-functional "Fusion Team" to help management re-engineer legacy workflows for native AI integration.
• Define, track, and report performance and governance metrics to prove ROI and accountability.

 

Vendor Management & Industry Representation

• Advise Procurement and Legal on standards for evaluating and onboarding third-party AI vendors.
• Represent the organization (CBC/Radio-Canada) at national and international conferences, contributing to public media data provenance standards.

 

Internal Governance & Executive Alignment

• Senior Advisory: Advise executives on AI strategy, run governance committees, and deliver executive leadership-level briefings when required.
• Standards & Training: Roll out AI policies across all departments (Media, Tech, Business) and partner with L&D on staff training and literacy initiatives.

 

AI Adoption & Change Management

• Fusion Team Leadership: Stand up and lead a cross-functional team of change management, training, and process optimization specialists.
• Workflow Integration: Work with department heads and staff to resolve workflow pain points and drive adoption of approved AI tools.
• Tracking & Reporting: Partner with Innovation Leads to establish ROI metrics and report adoption progress, blockers, and learnings to leadership.

 

External Relations & Industry Networks

• Industry and Peer Collaboration: Partner with media organizations, industry groups (EBU, INMA), and analysts (Gartner) to benchmark best practices.
• Thought Leadership: Share CBC/RC case studies and governance frameworks with external and public stakeholders.

 

What You Bring

 

Qualifications, experience & skills

• 7+ years of technology leadership experience, with 3 years of supervisory experience required.
• At least 5 years explicitly focused on operationalizing data or technology strategy, machine learning, technology risk management, or corporate governance programs.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required. A degree in Information Technology, Computer Systems Analysis, Engineering, or Management Information Systems is preferred.
• Bilingualism (English and French).
• Enterprise AI Governance: Proven track record building and managing AI oversight programs, governing models and agentic workflows, and developing policies, audits, and control documentation.
• Strategy-to-Operations: Ability to turn high-level strategy into actionable standards, operational workflows, and scalable operating models.
• Enterprise Change & Adoption: Demonstrated success scaling technology adoption across matrixed, multi-stakeholder organizations.
• AI & Data Expertise: Deep knowledge of AI lifecycles, generative/agentic risks, data privacy, and public media compliance standards.
• Executive Leadership: Exceptional communication skills to translate complex AI concepts and risks into business impact for executive and board-level stakeholders.
