Full Job Description
Job Summary:

The Standard seeks a talented, experienced actuary with strong life pricing experience to join our voluntary benefits division. You will lead a high-performing team of actuaries and students. You will leverage your skillful relationship management as you partner with key internal stakeholders and product line leaders. You'll be involved in ensuring the profitability of the voluntary life products and will serve as the illustration actuary which carries annual reporting responsibilities. The missing piece is you, bringing your vision, expertise, and energy.

Areas of focus for you will include

Management:

Direct and control the activities within a defined area of actuarial analysis or responsibility. Provide direct supervision to professional individual contributors including training, development and coaching. Establish a high-performing environment, fostering collaboration within the team. Identify workforce needs and ensure alignment with corporate manager expectations, values and vision.

Pricing/Underwriting:

Manage the development of pricing for premium rates and fees. Analyze emerging profit as compared to pricing assumptions. Perform specialized pricing/underwriting for large cases or unique blocks of business.

Actuarial/Experience Studies:

Gather, analyze and develop strong understanding of profitability, growth, risk, customer retention, and expense trends, utilizing company, industry and capital market data as necessary. Create and maintain models used in analysis, risk management, income projection and regulatory requirements. Communicate findings to management and provide quantitative knowledge for business/investment/financial strategies.

Product Development:

Collaborate with sales, marketing and other functional areas on the financial soundness and design of new products. Research, design and implement new products or product enhancements. Analyze new product profitability to achieve corporate/division income and growth goals.

Cross Collaboration:

Communicate and collaborate with various departments across the organization to meet business needs. Using data and analysis, provide strategic guidance in influencing management decision making.

Traits of a Successful Candidate

Education/Experience:

  • Experience with GGY AXIS preferred.
  • Group or Individual Life pricing experience strongly preferred.
  • Prior experience sufficient to have gained a seasoned actuarial business perspective, particularly including pricing design and strategy.
  • FSA designation required. Attaining Fellowship alone is not a sufficient criterion to operate at this level.
  • Bachelor's degree (or equivalent combination of education and experience) in mathematics, actuarial science, business, or a related field preferred.

  • Acts independently to determine methods and procedures on new assignments. Significant role as a resource/mentor to others in the actuarial career.
  • Primarily responsible for developing and executing on business needs within an actuarial function.

The actual compensation for this role will be based on a combination of education and experience, knowledge and skills, position budget, internal equity, and market data.

Salary Range:
$147,750.00 - $236,000.00
