Full Job Description
Position Overview

Horizon3 is seeking a strategic, technically strong Director of Accounting to lead the integrity of the company's financial reporting, accounting conclusions, and control environment. This role is responsible for final review of the close and reporting package, ownership of significant accounting estimates and judgments, and broader oversight of accounting policies, technical accounting matters, system governance, and enterprise accounting risk.

This role is intended to sit above close execution and provide final accounting leadership over reporting quality, policy interpretation, cross-functional risk escalation, and higher-risk or more judgmental accounting areas. The Director of Accounting partners serves as the key accounting leader for matters that extend beyond recurring close management into technical, structural, and enterprise-level ownership.

Key Responsibilities
  • Ensure the completeness, accuracy, and consistency of the company's monthly financial reporting package and overall financial statement presentation.
  • Review of complex account reconciliations, financial reporting schedules, and close deliverables.
  • Own significant accounting estimates, judgments, technical accounting issues, and related accounting conclusions, including preparation or oversight of technical memos as needed.
  • Provide accounting guidance over significant transactions, unusual accounting issues, and items requiring higher-risk review or escalation.
  • Serve as the primary accounting partner for external auditors, supporting audit planning, issue resolution, and financial statement reviews.
  • Oversee preparation and review of annual audited financial statements and related disclosures.
  • Ensure audit readiness through proactive management of accounting documentation, controls, and supporting analyses.
  • Oversee accounting policy application, reporting structure decisions, chart or mapping governance where relevant, and consistency of GAAP presentation across reports and schedules.
  • Drive cross-functional accounting risk management by identifying upstream/downstream dependencies, surfacing issues early, and representing accounting in broader operational initiatives.
  • Develop and manage processes to drive high financial reporting quality, maintain control effectiveness, and ensure readiness for issuance of financial statements.
  • Maintain higher-level authority over accounting systems governance, including ERP role design and management, access reviews, and designated administrative accounting permissions.
  • Build organizational capability through talent development, succession planning, performance management, and scalable team design.
  • Establish clear ownership, accountability, and development pathways across the accounting organization.
  • Partner with Finance, Legal, Revenue Operations, Tax, and business leaders to evaluate the accounting implications of new products, contracts, acquisitions, strategic initiatives, and business model changes.
  • Provide accounting leadership and decision support for company scaling initiatives and operational transformation efforts.
  • Drive continuous improvement of the accounting function to support organizational growth and increasing business complexity.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA strongly preferred.
  • 8+ years of progressive accounting experience, including leadership over financial close, financial reporting, technical accounting, and internal control environments.
  • Deep knowledge of U.S. GAAP and SOX, financial statement presentation, accounting estimates and judgments and control-oriented accounting operations.
  • Experience operating in a high-growth SaaS, technology, or similarly complex environment preferred.
  • Strong leadership presence with the ability to translate accounting issues into business risk, communicate clearly with senior stakeholders, and exercise sound escalation judgment.
  • Proven ability to strengthen controls, improve processes, and lead across cross-functional dependencies without losing technical rigor.
  • Experience leading ERP implementations, accounting system enhancements, or finance transformation initiatives preferred.
