Director of Health Information Management - La Amistad Behavioral Health Services

Minutes away from Orlando, La Amistad Behavioral Health Services is set in quiet, residential areas in Maitland and Winter Park, Florida. We treat individuals ranging from children and adolescents to adults. We have treatment programs for psychiatric issues, chemical dependency issues, and dual diagnosis for those suffering from both. The therapeutic environment at La Amistad is serene and homelike, and the semitropical climate of Central Florida allows for year-round activities. The greatest asset at our mental health facility is our staff, comprising highly-qualified psychiatrists, psychologists, professional nurses, social workers, therapists and psychiatric attendants who work as a team to uphold La Amistad's reputation for excellence in helping patients resolve behavioral health problems.

Essential Job Duties:

Under the general supervision of the CFO, establishes and maintains adequate health information systems in compliance with all applicable laws, standards and policies. These systems include forms control, chart audits, record security, and releases of information, transcription and filing. The Manager of Health Information Director supervises the ancillary staff working within the HIM Department.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead and oversee the Health Information Management (HIM) department within a behavioral health setting to ensure precise and timely documentation of patient care.
  • Ensure full compliance with all regulatory requirements specific to behavioral health.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor policies and procedures that protect the privacy and security of behavioral health records.
  • Oversee medical coding and billing processes, emphasizing accuracy for behavioral health diagnoses and treatments, using ICD-10-CM, CPT, and DSM-5 coding standards.
  • Collaborate closely with clinical teams, social workers, therapists, and IT to enhance EHR functionality and data workflows suited for behavioral health services.
  • Manage HIM staffing, budgeting, training, and professional development focused on the unique requirements of behavioral health documentation.
  • Lead initiatives to improve electronic health record (EHR) adoption, compliance, and optimization specific to behavioral health documentation and reporting.
  • Analyze health data to support clinical outcomes, quality improvement, and reimbursement efforts in behavioral health programs.
  • Guide responses to audits and quality assurance reviews related to health information management.
Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Graduate of an accredited college program with a Bachelor's Degree in Medical Record Information.
  • Five (5) years' experience in Medical Records/Health Information Management including at least one (1) year in medical surgical facilities and at least one (1) year in residential and/or acute psychiatric facilities. At least two years' experience as an HIM Manager or an assistant director in a Health Information Services Department.
  • License/Certification: RHIA or RHIT with demonstrated management experience. Current valid certification from the American Health Information Management Association.
  • Ability to pay attention to detail, develop and maintain effective efficient systems. Excellent organizational skills. Excellent communication skills, both oral and written. Ability to supervise and manage HIM Technicians and or clerks.
  • Work is of medium demand requiring extensive sitting, standing, bending, lifting and walking. Must be able to lift twenty (20) pounds.
