Work Type: Full Time

Hours Per Week: 40.00

Work Schedule: 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM

Summary:

This position is responsible for coordinating and managing the day to day financial accounting, accounts payable, treasury operations and financial reporting for several affiliates and joint ventures of Northern Light Health Systems. The DFS will work closely with the ASC to support the accounting and finance needs of the organization, to maintain effective internal controls, and to proactively participate in developing better information technology to better provide financial services to the organization. To be successful, the individual in this position must be: an effective manager of people, processes and situations; knowledgeable of financial reporting standards issued by the Financial Accounting Standards Board, American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, and other regulatory agencies; able to continually demonstrate a thorough understanding of accounting theory, financial and treasury operations, and the maintenance of effective internal controls; responsible, reliable and attentive to providing accurate and timely information; a role model in the delivery of services that are deemed to be superior in the eyes of the customers.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide financial interpretation of critical data to the ASC.
  • Ensure the timely and accurate distribution / filing of financial information to internal customers / external organizations.
  • Perform monthly and/or quarterly review of financial statements and highlight memos.
  • Develop standardized reporting structures to maintain consistency in financial reporting across all Northern Light Health entities.
  • Furnish internal reports; revise and update reports to be more useful and efficient; and furnish external reports as necessary.
  • Develop and periodically review accounting policies and procedures to ensure consistency and control.
  • Demonstrate an extensive knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles
  • Coordinate and assist with external audits. Oversight of Accounting, Treasury, and Financial Operations
  • Provide management oversight to the Accounting, Accounts Payable, and treasury departments and functions for the companies assigned.
  • Organize, direct and control the work of the accounting personnel in collecting, summarizing and interpreting financial data.
  • Closely oversee the performance of Managers in these areas.
  • Assist with the coordination of year-end tax reporting.
  • Work closely with ASC in planning and development of budgets and forecasts; institute and maintain other planning and control procedures; and analyze the report variances.
  • Perform other financial analysis functions as necessary.
  • Monitor corporate treasury issues and prepare recommendations for improvements in the investment program and performance reporting.
  • Maintain the company's system of accounts and keep books and record on all company transactions and assets.
  • Streamline current business practices including the expanded use of existing, or future, technologies.
  • Implement, maintain, and enhance automated procedures which reduce operating costs, promote efficiency, and/or provide better service to users. Establishing and Maintaining Effective Internal Controls
  • Maintain effective and efficient internal controls throughout the various accounting processes and systems within the organization
  • Assist the ASC with accomplishing system-wide financial goals and objectives
  • Conduct research and formulate recommendations related to new business possibilities.
  • Perform feasibility studies, prepare proformas and develop recommendations for capitalizing new ventures.
  • Provides consultation and representation to senior management on financial issues, to include financial analysis and projections, cost identification and allocation, and revenue and expense analysis.
  • Assist with long-term financial planning to include review of cash flow requirements, capital financing issues and the development of financing alternatives.
  • Coordinate and cooperate with the Process Analyst and Financial Systems Analyst to complete fiscal projects involving information systems and process improvements. Staff Development / Professional Development
  • Oversee the supervisionand management of personnel, which includes work allocation, training, and problem resolution in accordance with corporate policy.
  • Evaluate performance (at least annually) and make recommendations for personnel actions.
  • Motivates employees to achieve peak productivity and performance.
  • Facilitate productive staff meetings at least once per month.
  • Mentor managers and supervisors while facilitating a succession planning process.
  • Attend local, regional and national conferences/seminars to remain current in the field of this position.
  • Be an active member in the local HFMA chapter
  • Uphold and enhance the professional image of the Financial Services Department as a competent and reliable provider of financial services.
  • Perform other duties as assigned
