Position Purpose

The Digital Systems Engineer will support the development, integration, and delivery of Industry 4.0 technologies for JCB's new digital manufacturing facility in San Antonio, Texas. This role plays a critical part in building smart, connected, and data-driven manufacturing capabilities by designing and maintaining cyber-physical systems, IT/OT architecture, and digital infrastructure.

Major Tasks, Responsibilities & Key Accountabilities
  • Design and architect integrated manufacturing systems enabling real-time data flow between machines, PLCs, SCADA, MES/ERP systems, and cloud platforms
  • Integrate sub-assembly areas, production lines, warehouses, and logistics operations using Industry 4.0 frameworks
  • Develop and maintain digital thread and digital twin models across product and manufacturing lifecycles
  • Support and shape multi-year digital manufacturing roadmaps and technology priorities
  • Capture business requirements and develop high-level solution designs and business cases
  • Ensure alignment of initiatives with corporate strategy and successful project delivery
  • Manage third-party suppliers to ensure quality delivery and value to JCB
  • Support deployment of industrial networking, IIoT platforms, edge computing, and secure data architectures
  • Enable real-time monitoring, dashboards, and predictive analytics across the factory
  • Collaborate with automation engineers to integrate sensors, HMIs, controllers, AGVs/AMRs, and connected systems
  • Ensure systems comply with cybersecurity standards (IEC 62443, NIST) and data governance practices
  • Support pilot projects, vendor evaluations, and emerging Industry 4.0 technology initiativesOther duties as assigned


Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, Computer Science, or a related field
  • Hands-on experience with Industry 4.0 technologies (MES, SCADA, IIoT, industrial networking)
  • Experience working with PLC/SCADA systems and enterprise platforms (ERP/MES)
  • Understanding of IT/OT integration and cyber-physical systems
  • Strong collaboration skills in a cross-functional manufacturing environment
  • Must pass any drug screens, background checks, and any pre-employment tests, which will be conducted in accordance with applicable law.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with SAP, Siemens Opcenter, Azure, or AWS
  • Familiarity with OPC-UA, API integrations, and data architecture
  • Experience supporting AI/ML applications in manufacturing (predictive maintenance, quality, optimization)
  • Knowledge of digital twin and digital thread frameworks
  • Experience with cybersecurity standards such as IEC 62443 or NIST
