Summary

This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

About the Position: Serves as a Digital Forensics Analyst for the Joint Activities located at Fort Bragg, North Carolina.

Duties

Help

  • Serve as the lead Digital Forensics Analyst and trainer focused on cellular exploitation, media exploitation, document exploitation, biometric (latent prints), and deoxyribonucleic (DNA) collection.
  • Identify new or improved forensic computer examination, media analysis, or biometric equipment and/or systems, programs, methods, and procedures.
  • Analyze workflows to optimize existing operating processes and/or develop new processes for the purpose of forensics exploitation and analysis.
  • Participate in quality assurance activities, as necessary to ensure the laboratory meets mission objectives in accordance with established legal and professional standards.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Top Secret security clearance with Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) access for the duration of employment.
  • The position may require temporary duty (TDY) 30 days or less travel to various locations up to 20% of the time.
  • Position is subject to random drug testing. Incumbent must pass a drug test.
  • This position is deployable and may require extended TDY to OCONUS locations. This position requires a pre-employment physical and thereafter prior to
    OCONUS travel over 30 days.
  • This position requires a pre-employment physical and thereafter. Individual must be able to maintain qualifications for required access to perform temporary duty with other governmental agencies as directed. Required to lift 40 lbs.
  • Must be willing to submit to Counterintelligence Polygraph if required.
  • Subjected to the viewing of disturbing images and may be required to submit to a psychological evaluation.
  • May be required to work uncommon tour of duty hours, working either fixed or rotating shift which may include evenings, weekends and/or holidays.
  • May be subjected to short notice recall. Must reside within 50-mile radius of duty location.
  • Required to obtain and maintain a Digital forensic certification within 24 months of employment.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one-year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315. While probationary the incumbent can be terminated with limited appeal rights.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience in 1.) conducting digital media forensics using advanced hardware and software to extract, analyze, and recover data from computers, mobile devices, and other storage media in support of intelligence and law enforcement requirements; AND 2.) maintaining the integrity of submitted evidence by following strict chain of custody procedures, safeguarding materials for biometric and latent print examinations, and resolving accountability discrepancies; 3.) applying current latent print processes and other biometric exploitation techniques to meet legal, forensic, and professional standards across multiple exploitation disciplines; 4.) recommending emerging technical solutions to enhance forensic examination capabilities, improve analytical workflows, and support evolving command exploitation strategies. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12).

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience aloneno substitution of education for experience is permitted.
