The JB for Governor Campaign is seeking a Digital Copywriter to develop compelling long-form content and engaging scripts that educate, inspire, and drive audience engagement across digital channels. This role blends storytelling with marketing strategy, creating written content that supports brand awareness and video production initiatives.

Location: Chicago, IL (this position may travel as needed)
Reports to: Deputy Director of Content
Salary range: $78,000 - $84,000

Role Overview
The Digital Copywriter is responsible for producing persuasive, engaging, and platform-specific written content and scripts that support the campaign's digital communications strategy. This role develops copy that informs, motivates, persuades, and mobilizes voters, supporters, volunteers, and donors across digital channels.

This role works closely with content, social media, creative, and communications teams to ensure that campaign messaging is clear, compelling, and tailored to specific audiences and platforms. The ideal candidate possesses exceptional writing skills, strong political instincts, attention to detail, and the ability to write effectively under tight deadlines.

Key Responsibilities
  • Draft scripts for short-form and long-form video content.
  • Develop messaging for digital organizing and supporter engagement campaigns.
  • Write website content, landing pages, and digital advertisements when needed.
  • Assist in writing copy for graphics, videos, and multimedia content.
  • Draft candidate talking points and digital statements.
  • Collaborate with content and creative teams to develop integrated campaigns.
  • Adapt campaign messaging for different audiences and communication objectives.
  • Ensure all written content aligns with campaign messaging and brand standards.
  • Assist with rapid-response communications and issue-based messaging.
  • Write captions optimized for engagement and platform performance.
  • Conduct message testing and refine copy based on audience feedback and analytics.
  • Maintain editorial consistency across all digital communications.
  • Support speechwriting and long-form content projects as assigned.
  • Monitor digital trends and incorporate effective storytelling techniques into campaign content.
  • Support other campaign departments and initiatives as needed, including advance work, event coverage, and cross-departmental projects during high-priority moments.
