The Federal Civilian business unit supports many customers spanning the federal, commercial, and nonprofit space. Our customers include NASA, the General Services Administration, Office of Personnel Management, the Library of Congress, Health & Human Services, and the FDIC. We partner with these agencies to build new capabilities, deliver products, establish data as a strategic asset for informed decision-making, modernize legacy systems, and build the digital service infrastructure necessary to scale their mission impact.

Primary Responsibilities
DevOps Engineer III serves as an emerging individual contributor within a team, expanding your leadership, guidance, and mentoring skills. With the support and guidance of leadership, you will be responsible for supporting the goal of meeting scope, schedule, and delivery requirements. You will interact with stakeholders and utilize influential skills to drive improvements in DevOps processes and practices.

Primary expectations of a DevOps Engineer III include:
  • Manage blue/green and linear application rollouts with automated rollback to ensure zero-downtime production deployments
  • Build and maintain cost-optimization scripts using AWS Compute Optimizer and Cost Explorer to flag and clean up idle resources and orphaned volumes
  • Validate data encryption controls at rest (KMS) and in transit (TLS) across databases and cloud storage
  • Build and maintain authentication and access-control infrastructure supporting deployments, applying IAM least-privilege policies
  • Expand Terraform/IaC coverage across AWS services including EC2, S3, RDS, VPC, Lambda, and IAM
  • Support the observability/SRE lead during disaster recovery failover exercises; execute and document DR testing and maintain runbook accuracy
  • Provide deployment support to AppDev teams; maintain deployment runbooks as part of the Definition of Done
  • Participate in on-call and production triage rotations, supporting Tier 2/3 incident response

Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree and 5+ years of relevant experience, or equivalent additional experience in lieu of a degree
  • Must meet federal suitability requirements and pass a background investigation as a condition of employment
  • Hands-on experience with AWS services including EC2, ECS, RDS, S3, Lambda, and CloudWatch
  • Proficiency with Terraform for infrastructure-as-code provisioning and drift prevention
  • Demonstrated experience building and optimizing CI/CD pipelines in GitLab and/or Jenkins
  • Strong working knowledge of containerization using Docker and container orchestration on AWS ECS/EKS/Fargate
  • Familiarity with DevSecOps practices including SAST, dependency scanning, and automated vulnerability remediation
  • Solid understanding of networking, virtualization, and cloud infrastructure fundamentals
  • Hands-on experience with deployment strategies (blue/green, canary, linear) and rollback automation

Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior work in federal environments or familiarity with FedRAMP, FISMA, or ATO processes
  • Experience supporting SAFe or scaled Agile delivery teams as a platform or infrastructure provider
  • Familiarity with Kubernetes or comparable container orchestration platforms
  • Experience configuring data encryption at rest (KMS) and in transit (TLS)
  • Disaster recovery testing and execution experience
  • CloudFormation experience alongside Terraform

In support of various state and city equal pay transparency laws, Ad Hoc job descriptions feature the starting range we reasonably expect to pay to candidates who would join our team with little to no need for training on the responsibilities we've outlined above. Actual compensation is influenced by a wide range of factors including but not limited to skill set, level of experience, and responsibility. The range of starting pay for this role is $110,000 - $140,000.
