Job Description:

Brooks Instrument (www.brooksinstrument.com), an industry leader in flow and pressure instrumentation for critical applications, is seeking candidates for a Development Engineer position that will be based at the company headquarters in Hatfield, Pennsylvania (suburban Philadelphia). The company has manufacturing locations in Pennsylvania, Hungary, Malaysia and Korea, and also maintains sales and service offices throughout the world. Our high-tech products are used in laboratory and process applications in end markets such as: oil & gas, petrochemical, medical devices, waste water, life sciences, and analytical instruments.

Basic Function

The Development Engineer is responsible for the design, development and support of products and systems for the Brooks Instrument New Product Development team. The successful candidate must be self-directed, highly motivated, and organized with strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Develop/design/build mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic assembly and test systems for new and existing products.
  • Collaborate Cross functionally with Electrical, Firmware, Test, and Manufacturing Engineering to optimize designs for performance and manufacturability and to develop assembly processes.
  • Support system integration activities, including debugging and performance validation of hardware/software interactions.
  • Analyze and interpret system requirements to guide the development of new products
  • Participate in System requirements building, product requirements, specifications, DFMEA and PFMEA.
  • Work with automation groups, manufacturing engineering, and operations to develop assembly process, functional requirements for new manufacturing stands focusing on manufacturability, RTY, and supporting NPD project timelines.
  • Review and analyze circuit schematics and layouts to support hardware/software co-design and propose circuit optimizations to facilitate firmware development.
  • Work with mechanical engineering team to analyze mechanical parts and fluid dynamic systems and use both theoretical and empirical methods to develop and optimize flow measurement and control algorithms used in our products.
  • Develop and execute test plans and automated test systems to validate firmware and system-level performance.
  • Direct and or perform design verification and validation testing of new designs.
  • Design assignments may be occasionally broad in nature, requiring originality and ingenuity.
  • This position is 100% on-site in Hatfield PA.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Education and Experience
  • BS in an Engineering Discipline or Physics required. Masters of Science preferred.
  • 5-10 years experience in Engineering. 10+ years preferred
  • 5+ years experience in New Product Development of high precision mechanical design or flow/pressure component/instrumentation required.
  • Ability to make technical contributions to a multi-disciplinary team required.
  • Ability to design and assemble mechanical parts and fittings
  • Excellent ability to troubleshoot complex systems including electrical, mechanical, and software components.
  • Proficiency in MS Teams, Excel, PowerPoint, Word and Outlook required.
  • Basic programming knowledge, including ability to write Python scripts, ability to read and interpret software code, as well as write and communicate pseudo-code required
  • Ability to lead and manage small scale projects required.
  • Ability to read and understand detailed technical (electrical and mechanical) drawings and specifications required.
  • Experience working in a cleanroom environment a plus.
  • Experience with System Engineering and modeling a plus (MatLab/Simulink/Embedded Coder).
  • Experience with mass flow control systems and/or other control systems highly desirable
