AES Renewables and Power (AES R&P) is seeking a Developer, Gas Generation to lead load-enabling gas generation project development efforts as part of powered land and integrated energy solutions for data centers and other large-load customers.
The successful candidate will lead gas project development efforts and collaborate with a team of subject matter experts from project inception, through contracting, and up to commencement of construction. This includes support of siting, land acquisition, project permitting, coordinating site studies and diligence, managing the interconnection process, identifying and implementing pipeline capacity and molecule supply, coordinating and implementing the generation technology, managing project development budgets, schedule, contract management, and ensuring projects successfully reach construction commencement.
The role requires the ability to work on multiple tasks and projects and requires travel as needed. The successful candidate will work on a cross-functional team with growth strategy, land acquisition, real estate, permitting, commercial origination, data center development, legal, finance, engineering, construction, outside consultants, landowners, customers, pipeline operators, gas suppliers, project stakeholders and utility companies.
Key Responsibilities:
· Collaborate with Commercial, Data Center Development, Solutions Engineering, Renewable Generation Development and subject matter experts to develop and implement integrated Powered Land Solutions to serve data centers and other large-load customers, where gas generation serves as part of a broader speed-to-power or load-enabling strategy
· Coordinate with cross-functional teams to define key siting, load, fuel supply, and infrastructure requirements that influence project viability and solution design
· Lead all aspects of development of gas generation projects through construction support.
· Lead pipeline identification, operator outreach and support commercial in contracting pipeline capacity and molecule supply agreements
· Lead the development and management of project schedules, budgets, forecasts, financial models and risk register
· Lead Project Handoffs to the construction management team once “Dev Complete” has been achieved
· Assist in project Discretionary Permitting including permit strategy, tracking permit efforts, working with local AHJs, consultants, and counsel. May include presenting at permit hearings and public meetings
· Identify and clearly articulate project risks, opportunities and recommended action(s)
· Utilize AES CE financial and project management system(s) ensuring key project information is up-to-date and accurate
· Process contracts and agreements with external vendors for project-related services
· Support integrated solution development across gas generation, site readiness, interconnection, grid reliability and related infrastructure needed to enable customer load.
· Support development strategies that enable phased delivery or speed-to-power solutions for customer-driven opportunities.
· Support and coordinate with the project team to define the gas generation use case, site constraints and requirements which will influence the technology solution
· Support management of key stakeholders for each project
· Support or lead project meetings, develop agendas and action items as needed with internal and external stakeholders
· Support and manage contract obligations in key project documents (Site Control, Project Contracts, Fuel Supply Agreements, Commercial Agreements, etc.)
· Coordinate site diligence in conjunction with internal teams and consultants including critical issue screening, environmental studies, surveys, diligence reports, title review, property tax matters, community relations, etc.
· Coordinate internal and external teams to advance engineering and design to meet project budget, schedule and milestones
· Participate in project financing due diligence
· Represent AES R&P professionally and competently during all aspects of project development
Skills and Qualifications:
· Between 4 (four) and 8 (eight) years of gas project development experience
· BA/BS degree required with concentration in business, finance, economics, engineering, environmental sciences and/or other quantitative/environmental fields
· Extensive knowledge of gas project development, pipelines, utilities, interconnection, permitting, and contracting
· Experience with fuel supply strategy, utility/operator coordination, and integrated infrastructure development is preferred
· Extensive knowledge of gas generation technologies is preferred
· Ability to work across commercial, technical, development, and customer-facing teams to shape practical, scalable energy solutions
· Experience supporting data center, large-load, powered land, or other customer-driven infrastructure opportunities is preferred
· Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines
· Excellent oral and written communication skills are required including public speaking and/or platform skills for executive management presentations
· Self-starter, very self-reliant and capable of operating with minimum supervision
· Comfortable managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
· Willingness and ability to travel as needed
The expected salary for this position, at commencement of employment, is between $105,000 and $131,325/year; however, base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position also includes annual bonus.
