Job DescriptionOverviewThe department of Deterministic Safety Analysis at AtkinsRéalis/Candu Energy is engaged in deterministic safety analysis in support of new CANDU Nuclear Power Plants as well as supporting the operation and safety of the existing domestic and international CANDU plants.
The Safety Analyst will work as part of a multidisciplinary team to develop and apply advanced analytical methodologies to address client and project needs related to nuclear safety and licensing for plant support, refurbishment, and new-build projects. The role includes performing safety analyses for events including, but not limited to, large and small loss-of-coolant accidents (LOCAs), loss of flow, loss of reactivity control, and severe accidents.
Your role- Plans deterministic safety analysis of nuclear power plant following industry standards and practices.
- Analysis of postulated accidents using state-of-the-art methodologies and computer codes.
- Develops and evaluates approaches and methodologies to be used on safety analysis.
- Prepares documentations such as safety analysis plans and document analyses in reports for submission to regulators such as CNSC.
- Ensures the analysis is performed consistently with company procedures and project requirements.
About you- A Relevant honours degree from a university of recognized standing in Engineering or Science.
- A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience (experience obtained in advanced degree programs will be considered for applicability against this requirement).
- Experience in licensing activities would also be an asset.
- Familiarity and experience with some of the safety and licensing computer codes such as CATHENA, NUCIRC, GOTHIC, TUF and MAAP.
- Proficiency in computer programming, especially FORTRAN, is desirable.
- Good knowledge of the CANDU design, with particular emphasis on primary and secondary heat transport systems, plant control systems, containment and moderator systems would be an asset.
- Good knowledge of underlying engineering principles and practices including CNSC REGDOC 2.4.1.
- Broad knowledge of thermal-fluid sciences (fluid flow, heat transfers, multi-phase flow and thermodynamics).
- Ability to work well under pressure and be flexible, i.e., must be able to perform varied work assignments effectively and respond quickly to changing project needs.
- Ability to show initiative while working in a team environment.
- Ability to work to budget and schedule.
- Must be conversant with computer environments; proficiency in both Linux and WINDOWS environments is a strong asset.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills are required.
- Must be willing to travel occasionally to participate in meetings and workshops.
- Full commitment to working in a formal QA environment.
