Full Job Description
Position Summary The Design Project Manager is responsible for managing the planning, due diligence, site layout development, consultant coordination, and design execution of Murphy USA's store development projects. This role supports strategic growth initiatives, including interior equipment and layout optimization and prototype deployment programs, by ensuring high-quality, timely, and cost-effective design deliverables from project initiation through construction document completion. The Design Project Manager serves as the primary point of coordination between Store Development, Real Estate, Construction, Operations, external architects, engineers, and consultants to advance projects through the design process while maintaining compliance with Murphy USA standards, schedules, and business objectives. Key Responsibilities Project Planning & Due Diligence Manage multiple development projects simultaneously from site acquisition through construction document issuance. Partner with Real Estate and Development teams to evaluate prospective locations and redevelopment opportunities. Site Layout & Design Coordination Co-develop preliminary site layouts and conceptual plans for new store (NTIs) and redevelopment projects. Coordinate design activities with architectural, civil, structural, MEP, signage, and specialty consultants. Ensure layouts comply with Murphy USA operational requirements& prototype standards. Facilitate design reviews and incorporate stakeholder feedback into project deliverables. Consultant & Deliverable Management- interior equipment and layout optimization program Manage consultant schedules, budgets, and design deliverables. Review plans for completeness, constructability, quality, and standards compliance. Track project milestones and maintain accountability for on-time delivery. Coordinate responses to design comments and review cycles. Construction Document Development Oversee preparation of permit and construction drawing packages. Coordinate revisions resulting from jurisdictional reviews, value engineering efforts, field conditions, and stakeholder input. Support bidding and pre-construction activities by ensuring accurate and complete documentation. Cross-Functional Collaboration Serve as a liaison between Design, Construction, Procurement, Operations, Development, Marketing, and external partners. Participate in project status meetings and provide updates on schedule, risks, and deliverables. Support implementation of prototype updates and continuous improvement initiatives. Qualifications Education Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management, Planning, or a related field preferred. Experience 5+ years of experience in architectural design, project management, store development, retail development, or related disciplines. Experience coordinating consultants and managing commercial construction projects. Experience producing or reviewing site plans, construction drawings, and permit documents. Convenience retail, fuel retail, restaurant, or commercial development experience preferred.
