Moog Space and Defense Group is the premier motion and flow control solutions provider for the following markets: satellites, human-rated space vehicles, launch vehicles, missiles, military ground vehicles, and naval vessels.

Moog in Orrville, OH is a global designer and manufacturer of high performance hydraulic, pneumatic, and electromechanical (EM) actuators for nuclear submarines and aircraft carriers, as well as for some of the most demanding industrial applications. Our naval products comply with stringent qualification requirements such as shock, vibration, low acoustic signature, and seawater corrosion resistance, while our industrial products are often designed comply with API, ATEX, or other customer specific requirements. Many of our applications are mission or safety critical.

Moog Orrville is looking for a Design Engineer in the Design Engineering group. You will report to the Engineering Section Head.

In this role, you will play a key part in the design process for new product development of hardware used on military and commercial vehicles and equipment.

Currently, most work for the Design Engineering group in Orrville is in the development of hydraulic actuation equipment for US Navy nuclear submarines with a growing need for electromechanical actuation solutions.

Our products are generally unique for each customer and therefore most new applications require a special, tailored design. This enables you to take part in all steps of the design process - from concept design through detailed analysis and design maturation to prototype manufacture and qualification of hardware.

You will use a broad range of skills. Our site is relatively small, and you'll be expected to utilize multiple engineering and interpersonal skillsets, and you will also have the ability to tap into the resources and expertise of many other talented engineers in Orrville and across other Moog sites nationwide. You will be relied upon to work both independently and on a team of other passionate professionals like yourself. You will have a design engineering function, meaning the nominal job duties will support development of new equipment designs. In this area you will be required to create engineering calculations and design reports, CAD models, part drawings, assembly drawings, test procedures and support performance of on-site and off-site qualification tests.

As a Design Engineer, you will...
  • Professionally interface with customer and supplier representatives during project reviews and to resolve emergent technical issues.
  • Perform assigned engineering tasks within budget and time constraints to support project cost and schedule objectives.
  • Exercise effective and logical engineering judgement in all design decisions, provide organized and thorough technical support as required
  • Obtain a detailed working knowledge of applicable customer application documents, military specifications, and contract requirements
  • Successfully collaborate with internal Moog areas of contract administration, program management, manufacturing, quality, assembly and test to ensure new equipment designs satisfy all stakeholder interests prior to entering production


To be considered for the Design Engineer you will typically need the following...
  • Bachelors of Science in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering Technology; or related degree/discipline with three (3) or more years relevant experience.
  • Solid communication skills to engage with customers, program managers, manufacturing teams, and other engineering staff and personnel throughout Moog.
  • Strong, data driven decision-making skills
  • Practical knowledge and/or experience with mechanical part and system analysis
  • Practical knowledge and/or experience with hydraulic system design
  • Practical knowledge and/or experience with technical drawing practices and GD&T standards
  • 3D CAD modeling experience
  • Ability to obtain a U.S. DoD Secret Security Clearance.

Salary Range Transparency:
Orrville, OH $75,000.00-$110,000.00 Annually
