DESIGN & BIM MANAGER

JOB DESCRIPTION

JOB SUMMARY

The Design & BIM Manager leads Paradigm's design team and owns the full design lifecycle, from conceptual packages through shop drawing production and BIM model management. This is a leadership role, accountable for team performance, drawing quality, schedule, and consistent design standards across every project.

The ideal candidate has deep expertise in prefabricated panelized construction, is an expert Revit user, and understands how design decisions shape factory outcomes.

A central part of this role is systemizing how Paradigm designs and builds its homes. That means spotting repeatable patterns across projects and turning them into standardized templates and workflows that let the factory scale. Paradigm wants someone who can see what should change and take ownership of implementing it, within the design team and alongside related departments.

This is a hybrid position based in the Okanagan, with Kamloops preferred. The Design & BIM Manager works primarily from a home office, with weekly travel to Paradigm's Louis Creek factory.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Team Leadership & People Management
• Define team roles and manage designer schedules by project, matching workload to capacity and priority.
• Mentor and develop team members - elevating both technical skill and design judgment - and allocate internal and consultant resources across the project portfolio.
• Set and enforce quality expectations, reviewing work before it leaves the team and holding a high bar.

Design & Drawing Management
• Manage conceptual and architectural drawing packages, coordinating internal design staff and external partners.
• Oversee shop drawing production, from internal workflow through consultant approval, ensuring every package is current and complete before release to production and field teams.
• Establish and enforce drawing standards, revision control, and constructability and code review.
• Communicate design intent clearly to production, construction managers, project managers, and field crews, and serve as the primary point of contact for design questions from the factory floor.

BIM, Systems & Standards
• Operate Revit as the primary design tool, capable of leading full architectural drawing sets.
• Identify repeatable patterns across projects and systemize designs into standardized templates and workflows that support scaling production.
• Ensure design standards are applied consistently across projects and facilities, and support integration between design output and production reporting software.
• Lead adoption of new design or planning software, and own the implementation of process improvements within the design team and in collaboration with production, manufacturing, and other related departments.

Prefabrication Expertise
• Maintain current knowledge of prefabricated construction, with specific depth in panelized wall, floor, and roof systems.
• Apply that knowledge to every drawing review, ensuring designs are buildable, efficient, and manufacturable in a factory setting.
• Contribute to constructability reviews and pre-production meetings, collaborating with the Production Coordinator and factory team to translate design into effective, waste-conscious production packages.

Cross-Functional Coordination
• Partner with Project Managers to confirm design scope, drawing timelines, and requirements before production planning begins.
• Coordinate with the Production Coordinator on design package release timing to align with factory sequencing.
• Flag design risks, scope changes, or schedule impacts to the Director of Manufacturing and VP of Operations as early as possible, and support the sales team with design input on scope, feasibility, and approach.

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS
• Diploma or degree in Architectural Technology, Engineering, or a related field - or equivalent industry experience.
• 5+ years of experience in design, BIM management, or drafting within a prefabricated, modular, or construction manufacturing environment, including experience leading a design or drafting team.
• Expert-level Revit user with thorough working knowledge of panelized prefabrication: wall panels, floor panels, trusses, and associated assemblies.
• Strong understanding of shop drawing production, fabrication packages, and constructability principles.
• Experience with Structsoft or similar panel design/ERP tools is a strong asset.
• Excellent organizational skills, a systems thinker who takes ownership of implementing process improvements, and a clear communicator who can translate design detail for production audiences and vice versa.

WORKING CONDITIONS
• Hybrid role based in the Okanagan, working primarily from a home office.
• Weekly travel to Paradigm's Louis Creek factory required, to coordinate with production and manufacturing, with regular time in the Kamloops office as needed.
• Fast-paced environment with shifting priorities driven by project schedules and production demand, and exposure to varying temperatures, noise, and dust during factory visits.
