Job Description: Design and Construction Manager
Reports to: Director of Design and Construction
Supervises: Crew Members, Crew Supervisors
Status: Full-time, Exempt

Overview of Responsibilities
The Construction Manager plans project schedules, supervises crew and crew leads, subcontractors and volunteers on diverse projects and prepares cost estimates to implement the project. Accountable for deliverables within budget and timelines. Recommends design and construction options. Represents NET in various community and government grant meetings. Responsible for safety of vehicles and maintenance schedule Participates with NET staff in preparation of grant application and reviews construction plans and specifications.

Responsibilities include:
  • Plans, directs, coordinates, and supervises NET construction crew supervisors, field crews and restoration staff, as well as specialty subcontractors and volunteers working on various development projects.
  • Conducts site inspections and provides reports and photo documentation of findings and recommendations.
  • Provides training for all crew
  • Coordinate with design and project management staff to ensure delivery of the required improvements within the established budget and schedules.
  • May represent NET in meetings or events with government agencies, volunteers and non-profit organizations, as well as working with NET staff to achieve project goals.
  • Project Planning and Scheduling:
    • Creating detailed, realistic timelines and organizing project phases from inception to completion.
  • Budgeting and Cost Control:
    • Preparing accurate budgets, managing cash flow, and tracking costs to avoid overruns.
  • Responsible for project constructability reviews, recommended construction options and coordinates required establishment and maintenance of improvements. Some of the specific responsibilities related to all phases of construction and project implementation include (but not limited to):
    • Preparing and scheduling of crew hours and assignments
    • Ensure and implement all related job safety and security measures (truck / equipment, tool, safety and operation, maintenance, tail-gate sessions,
    • staff training
    • employee uniforms
    • PPE and assure compliance with NET personnel policies and procedures
    • Coordination of new employee hiring and all section staff evaluations
    • Maintain all related job controls, including purchase orders, credit card & mileage logs, accident / incident reports and records
    • Analyze field progress and assure compliance with production standards, and make corrective actions

Qualifications/Skills:
  • Proficient in software applications for landscape construction including scheduling and cost estimating
  • Proficient in freehand or digital graphic media presentation
  • Good communication skills
  • Familiar with California native plants, drought tolerant plants, stormwater management devices and infrastructure improvements
  • Proficient in interpreting construction documents, including grading, planting, and details
  • Able to demonstrate successful project budgeting and scheduling
  • Experience in staff development
  • Experience with project implementation and permitting processes
  • Spanish language skills preferred

Education and Experience:
  • BA degree and / or Certificates in Landscape Architecture, Construction Management,
  • A combined three years of recent and relevant experience in planning & construction project management and implementation.

Licenses:
  • Valid California Class C driver's license
  • Possess a California State C-27 license at the time of employment or have the ability to obtain one within the first 8 months of employment.

Physical Requirements:
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Ability to lift and move up to 20 pounds
