Duties
Position 1⃣: As a Deputy Project Manager - Technical within Vessel Procurement (VP), your responsibilities will include supporting the Project Manager in the planning, monitoring & controlling of engineering activities to support the design and construction of a class of vessels. Daily tasks will include leading the project technical team, providing recommendations on engineering decisions, review of technical documents, managing risks, and working in close collaboration with the other members of the Integrated Project Team (VP Engineering Services, and various members from other directorates).
Position 2⃣: As an Engineering Manager within VP, your responsibilities will include leading multi disciplinary engineering teams to support engineering activities related to several shipbuilding design projects. Daily tasks will include supervising engineers, technologists and inspectors, in the development of vessel concept designs, leading both the production and evaluation of engineering studies and reports, managing the review of vessel designs developed by shipyards and designers, and elaborating technical plans to assist Deputy Project Managers on their respective projects.
Position3⃣: As an Engineering Manager within Marine Engineering (ME), your responsibilities will include leading engineering teams to support engineering activities related to an engineering discipline (naval architecture or mechanical engineering or electrical engineering) and of related services and delivery of project management and planning services in support of engineering projects as part of the ongoing provision of operational engineering support to the Marine Engineering (ME) Branch of the Canadian Coast Guard (CCG). Daily tasks will include supervising engineers, activities related to the provision and review of engineered design solutions in support of the modification, repair, or upgrade of CCG vessels, equipment, and systems, and the overseeing of the quality of engineering work related to naval architectural or electrical system or mechanical systems as well as the development and implementation of internal procedures, tools, databanks, national technical and materiel standards, and guidelines.

⛴ The Vessel Procurement (VP) directorate is responsible for the management of the design and construction of new large and small vessels, air cushioned vehicles, helicopters, and small craft to support the operational requirements identified in the Coast Guard Fleet Renewal Plan. The directorate is composed of several projects that must deliver various classes of vessels and aircraft as announced under the National Shipbuilding Strategy (NSS). It is a dynamic and challenging environment where your contribution will enable the CCG to deliver critical services to Canadians who make use of our waterways.
Marine Engineering (ME) is one of four Branches within the Integrated Technical Services (ITS) Directorate and is the technical authority for CCG vessels and small craft. As the technical authority, ITS-ME is responsible for managing the Vessel Maintenance Management Program (VMMP) that includes: vessel and equipment life cycle management, in-service engineering, project management and reporting, vessel class management (including disposal), and vessel and small craft maintenance.
In line with Treasury Board Secretariat (TBS) direction, the Department of National Defence has adopted a common hybrid work model where employees work at their designated worksite at least 4 days each week, or 80% of their regular schedule.
Intent of the process
The intent of this process is to fill two (2) positions in Ottawa, Ontario on an indeterminate (permanent) basis.
A pool of partially or essentially qualified candidates may be established through this process and may be used to staff identical or similar positions for current and future vacancies in various locations with various employment tenures and security requirements within the core public administration with the approval of DND and the CCG hiring managers.

EDUCATION:
EDU1: Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, naval architecture, or some other engineering specialty relevant to the duties of the position.
OR
OCCUPATIONAL CERTIFICATION:
OC1: Certification as a Professional Engineer (P.ENG.) in Canada.

EXPERIENCE:
EX1: Extensive* experience providing engineering services.
EX2: Significant** experience leading both the production and evaluation of engineering drawings, studies and reports.
EX3: Significant** experience leading multi-disciplinary engineering teams.
EX4: Experience in two (2) or more of the following three (3) project phases as defined by PMBOK, for a complex*** engineering project: Planning, Executing,
Monitoring and Controlling.
EX5: Significant** experience in the ship design or construction process or maintenance activities.
EX6: Significant** experience managing human resources (full range of human resource management responsibilities including assigning work, managing direct reports, performance evaluations, and recruitment).
Note:
*Extensive experience is defined as experience normally associated with having performed a broad range of various engineering related activities which are acquired over a period of at least ten (10) years from graduation with an engineering degree. Only periods of active work in engineering related activities will be counted.
**Significant experience is defined as performed the duties on regular basis for at least
two (2) years.
