JOB SUMMARYSutter County Probation is seeking lateral candiates to join their team at the Deputy Probation Officer II or Senior Probation Officer level.
Candidates need to only apply once; all applications will be screened for the minimum requirements at the highest level they are qualified for.
Under general supervision, these positions perform complex casework and investigations involving adult or juvenile offenders adjudicated by the Court for supervision; and supervises offenders by monitoring, counseling, and coordinating rehabilitative and community resources to ensure compliance with Court ordered conditions of supervision.
This is a continuous recruitment. Qualified candidates will be referred directly to the department for hiring interviews.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSDeputy Probation Officer II:Knowledge of:
Principles of community corrections, social casework, and court procedures; federal, state, and local laws and ordinances affecting adult and juvenile probation work; principles and findings of applied psychology and sociology; the causes, extent, prevention, and control of crime and delinquency; interviewing and counseling techniques.
Ability to:
Understand and deal effectively with offenders; analyze investigative material and make proper deductions; determine the truth of statements; work cooperatively with peace officers and related social agencies; speak and write effectively; exercise skilled judgment when supervising offenders.
Education and Experience:
Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in criminal justice, behavioral science or related field; minimum of two years of professional probation work experience equivalent to work performed by a Deputy Probation Officer I, which demonstrates the ability to perform at the journey level and includes the successful completion of the California Probation Officer Core Course Training; completion of a minimum of forty hours of in-service training per year.
Senior Probation Officer:Knowledge of:
Principles and practices of probation work; the techniques of social casework, interviewing, and case recording; psychology as it relates to individual and group behavior; community resources available for social treatment of dysfunctional persons; sociology as it relates to cultural groups and community dynamics.
Ability to:
Prepare and present effective written or oral reports; supervise the work of others; establish and maintain effective personal and working relationships.
Education and Experience:
Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in criminal justice, behavioral science or related field; at least two years of experience equivalent to a Deputy Probation Officer II which demonstrates the ability to successfully perform at the higher journey level; Completion of a minimum of forty hours of in-service training per year.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTSEssential Duties require the following physical skills and work requirements:
May require the ability to use and care for firearms; requires the ability to think and act quickly in emergencies; effectively deal with personal danger; maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities which may include effecting arrests, subduing resisting individuals, chasing fleeing subjects, running, walking, crouching or crawling during emergency operations; operate assigned equipment; perform semi-skilled repetitive movements, such as using a computer, typing and data entry; maintain effective audio-visual discrimination and perception needed for making observation and communicating with others; hear and communicate orally; ability to operate a motor vehicle.
License or Certificate:
May require the possession and maintenance of a valid California Driver's license.
Disaster Service Workers:
All Sutter County employees are designated as Disaster Service Workers during a proclaimed emergency and may be required to perform certain emergency services at the direction of the department and/or County.
