Full Job Description
The base salary range for this position is dependent upon experience and location, ranging from $190,000 - $237,000.

Job Summary:

The Deputy General Counsel serves as a Vice President, General Counsel supporting Central Main Power (CMP) by providing legal counsel and advice to senior management of Avangrid Networks, Avangrid Service Company, Central Maine Power Company, Inc., and other Maine-based operating companies on complex legal and regulatory proceedings, litigation, legislation, and commercial matters in Maine. Responsible for coordinating legal positions and strategy.

This position reports into the Vice President, General Counsel responsible for Avangrid Networks (CMP's parent company).

Key Responsibilities:
  • Ensures compliance with AVANGRID Corporate Governance Model, governance documents, and regulatory requirements at Maine companies.
  • Provides legal advice, advocacy, direction, and management for important state and federal regulatory matters.
  • Coordinates legal aspects of regulatory and commercial activities and best practices across Maine businesses, including policy, strategy, execution, and technology.
  • Provides overall legal and policy advice and guidance on regulatory developments, litigation, and commercial matters to senior management.
  • Manages and directs inside counsel and outside counsel.


Required Qualifications:
  • J.D. degree from an ABA-accredited law school, state Bar Admission, and a minimum of ten (10) years of relevant legal experience, including experience practicing before state or federal administrative agencies.
  • Strong ethical values, consistent with AVANGRID's core values.
  • Self-motivated, resourceful, experienced, and agile to handle a broad range of legal matters, including the ability to multitask.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills as a proven team player, including the ability to provide cross-functional support.
  • Well-organized and able to identify business-oriented solutions to complex legal problems.
  • Excellent oral and written communication, problem solving, analytical, organizational, and negotiating skills with demonstrated ability to achieve results.
  • Excellent case and project management skills.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail and presents high-quality work.
  • Creative mind for finding solutions to complex issues.
  • Able to provide overall legal and strategic advice and guidance to senior management.
  • Able to analyze complex legal issues, advise senior management, manage, and implement appropriate corporate response.
  • Able to serve as lead regulatory litigation counsel in state proceedings.
  • Able to effectively lead a team of lawyers.
  • Excels in dynamic work environments and cross-functional teams.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Fluency in Spanish.
