Job Description
The Deputy Director/Senior Advisor reports to the Director of the Office of Worker Power and helps run the day-to-day work of the office, translating the Director's vision and external relationships into operations, staffing, and follow-through
The Problems You'll Solve:
Help shape strategy alongside the Director and the broader DMEJ team, connecting MOWP's work to the office's wider priorities.
Support organizing campaigns and partnerships with unions, worker centers, and community organizations, particularly in industries with low union density and significant worker exploitation.
Draft policy proposals and legislative language that strengthen worker power, working closely with legal and policy staff.
Coordinate with City agencies to implement worker power initiatives and track their progress.
Monitor emerging workplace issues, including the impact of AI, algorithms, and other economic changes, and prepare briefings and recommendations for the Director.
Help plan and staff public meetings and hearings on significant worker issues.
Oversee research and data efforts tracking wage growth, workforce equity, union density, and other measures of worker power.
Serve as a key point of contact for the office and represent MOWP in the Director's absence.
About You:
-You have organizing experience and a track record of contributing to winning campaigns on behalf of workers.
-You have a strong understanding of the NYC and national labor movement, including its challenges, opportunities, and different constituencies.
-You have experience managing people, projects, or programs, and turning strategy into an executable workplan.
-You have strong working relationships and credibility with workers, unions, worker organizations, and other key stakeholders.
Minimum Required Qualifications:
-7+ years of experience in the labor movement, including at a union, worker center, or organization that directly represents workers; NYC experience strongly preferred.
-Organizing experience and a track record of contributing to winning campaigns on behalf of workers.
-Strong understanding of the NYC and national labor movement, including its challenges, opportunities, and different constituencies.
-Experience managing people, projects, or programs, and turning strategy into an executable workplan.
-Strong working relationships and credibility with workers, unions, worker organizations, and other key stakeholders.
Preferred Skills:
-Experience drafting policy proposals or legislative language.
-Experience managing a team, office, or complex project with multiple moving pieces.
-Familiarity with NYC government structure and how City agencies operate.
-Experience using research and data to track labor market or workforce trends.

Qualifications
1. Do you have a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university?
2. Do you have an associate degree from an accredited college or university along with two (2) years of experience with administrative, analytic, coordinative, supervisory or liaison responsibilities?
3. Do you have a four-year high school diploma, or its educational equivalent approved by a state's Department of Education or a recognized accrediting organization along with four (4) years of experience as described in question "2" above?
4. Do you have a satisfactory combination of education and/or experience equivalent to that described in questions "1," "2," and/or "3" above?
