Full Job Description

Natural Resources Capital Design and Construction is a team of designers, foresters, project managers and construction mangers who translate natural areas management goals for Parks' forests, wetlands and waterways into capitally-funded restoration and construction projects. We design and construct wetland, shoreline, riverine and forest restoration projects, green infrastructure retrofits and public access corridors within sensitive habitats and natural areas.

Major Responsibilities
-Under direction of the Director of Natural Resources Design and Construction, with very great latitude for the exercise of independent judgment or action, oversee all NRG restoration and construction projects, ensuring that they are completed on time and within budget.
-Work with agency leadership, staff scientists, Maintenance and Operations staff and other stakeholders to ensure that construction meets targets for ecological function and/or reduces ecological impacts while addressing Agency and community goals.
-Ensure all construction is responsive to Federal, State and local regulatory frameworks, including all required filings, reviews and approvals. Ensure that permitting and external agency review timelines are factored into project schedules and tracked throughout construction.
-Develop the professional capacity of Construction Supervisors, Senior Foresters and their direct reports. Responsibilities include but are not limited to administrative oversight of staff, hiring, training and coaching, disciplinary process when necessary and health and safety.
-Work with Construction Supervisor(s) and Senior Forester(s) to ensure that all construction operations comply with contract specifications and documents; Assess and monitor progress of construction by reviewing and approving requests for Information, submittals and shop drawings.
-Participate in site inspections to ensure quality assurance when warranted. Direct contractors on compliance with plans and specifications and approve changes in the field.
-Ensure lessons learned in the field are communicated across teams to ensure continuous improvement of contract documents and construction management processes.
-Oversee constructability review of project drawings during design phase (75% - 90% complete).
-Assist Parks lawyers and City Law department in the timely preparation of documents to support Parks' position in contractor claims and other negotiations.
-Assist in the monitoring of various contract administrative requirements, including Minority and Women-Owned Business Enterprise (M/WBE) goals, grant reimbursements and Project Labor Agreements.
-May act on behalf of the Director of Natural Resources Design and Construction and carry out all associated tasks, including supervision of the entire team, as needed.

ADMINISTRATIVE HORTICULTURIST - 1007C

Qualifications

1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college with major study in horticulture, arboriculture, or landscape architecture and four years of full-time, paid experience in horticultural work of which two (2) years must have been in a supervisory, administrative, consultative, managerial, or executive capacity; or

2. A satisfactory equivalent. However, all candidates must have at least a high school diploma or evidence of having passed an examination for a high school equivalency diploma and one year of supervisory, administrative, consultative, managerial, or executive experience as described above.
