The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) is excited to announce an opening for a Deputy Director of Fleet Operations. This role will assist in overseeing the activities of a statewide Fleet Operations Division that includes automobiles, trucks, and construction equipment. In this job, you will advise on fleet programs, policies, and appropriation of resources. You will assist in managing budgets for equipment capital, rental/leasing, and operations.

Position Description

Assists in overseeing the activities of the Fleet Operations Division to include fleet procurement, utilization, assignment, and repair in every TxDOT location. Assists and directs the implementation of department policies, programs, and strategies consistent with Federal and State law and directives issued by the Commission. Oversees the implementation of software and reports that help manage fleet operations to be most efficient and effective. Plans, assigns, and supervises the work of others. Reports to the Statewide Fleet Director. Work requires extensive contact with high-level executives, governmental officials, private entities, internal agency audiences, and the public. Employees at this level are virtually self-supervising and assume direct accountability for the work product.

Essential Duties:

• Advises the Statewide Fleet Director on technical merits of programs, appropriation of resources, programs, and policies related to fleet operations.
• Assists in overseeing the development, coordination and monitoring of equipment capital budgets, rental and leasing budgets and equipment operating budgets.
• Develops and implements equipment life cycle management systems.
• Insures equipment needed by districts and divisions for daily operations is available.
• Ensures the department is able to respond to emergencies through moving department and rented equipment as needed.
• Oversees equipment recalls, safety campaign notices and equipment preventive maintenance advisories.
• Oversees the development of deployment strategies to ensure the most capable and cost effective fleet size.
• Plans, develops and evaluates policies; reviews guidelines, procedures, rules and regulations; monitors compliance.
• Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:

Bachelor's Degree in a related discipline. Relevant work experience may be substituted for degree on a year per year basis. Substitutions for Minimum Qualifications

Experience:

• 7 years of experience in Management related activities (Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent) Related graduate level education may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis.
• Must have three (3) years managerial/supervisory experience.

Licenses and Certifications:

Valid driver's license. This position requires driving a state vehicle.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

• Sedentary work: Lift up to 10 lbs at a time and occasionally carry files/small tools
• Light work: Lift up to 20 lbs at a time and frequently lift or carry objects up to 10 lbs
• Standing-prolonged periods of time
• Repetitive Motion-substantial movements of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers
• Close Visual Acuity-work includes data/figures; view a computer screen; extensive reading
