Under the general direction of the Chief Deputy Director of Operations, the Deputy Director, Administrative Services Division, provides executive-level leadership and management of statewide administrative policy, direction and monitoring for all departmental administrative services for Sacramento and the five State hospitals. The State Hospitals provide 24-hour mental health treatment services to both civil and forensic commitments. The Deputy Director is responsible for a department budget of $3.2 billion and personnel issues for over 13,000 employees in 18 of 21 Collective Bargaining Units.

Working Conditions- This position reports to the Allenby Building in Sacramento and may be eligible and considered for a telework opportunity in accordance with departmental policies, operational needs, and management approval. Employees are currently required to work in-person at least four (4) days per week in alignment with Executive Order N-22-25 . Additional in-office days may be required based on operational needs.
- The incumbent may also be required to travel up to 10% throughout California as needed, with prior notice.

Knowledge of the Department of State Hospitals' organized structure, programs, operations, and the oversight and administration of state hospitals. Executive and managerial experience overseeing administrative functions with a statewide impact as identified in the job description of the announcement in a medium-to-large department or program. Experience in the evaluation of administrative operations to identify areas of improvement, review and determine cost efficiencies, and formulate and implement effective solutions. Experience in planning and policy making in California State government, with an emphasis in administrative services functions. Experience representing a department, both orally and in writing, and working collaboratively with stakeholders, the Governor's Office, the Legislature, California Health and Human Services Agency, California Department of Finance, California Department of Human Resources, executive management, program staff, and other State agencies. Demonstrated experience in facilitating solutions to complex organizational problems and working in collaborative partnership with all levels of the organization placing a high value on customer service.
