This is a high level management position within the organization. This position is directly involved in the overall management, operations, and strategic planning needed to support a successful statewide public health operation. It offers numerous opportunities for internal and external interaction through representing the organization and the Department of Health and Senior Services.

As a deputy division director, this role acts on behalf of the division director during absences. The ideal candidate will value the opportunity to understand how the organization functions as a whole, bringing together the experience and expertise of multiple operational units to deliver high quality services. This position is required to have an understanding of testing and support services offered by each of the areas within the laboratory to support programs within our department, other state agencies and a wide variety of external partners including but not limited to clinical laboratories, healthcare facilities, veterinarians, law enforcement and the citizens of Missouri.

This position will also be involved in the coordination of the construction and occupancy of a new laboratory campus next to the current facility with future opportunities to work with the other agencies who will be located within the campus as well. The candidate will apply continuous improvement principles to identify opportunities to use organizational resources more efficiently. Additionally, they will represent the organization as a division within the Department of Health and Senior Services, collaborate with local partners across Missouri, and engage with colleagues from similar organizations around the country.

The salary indicated represents a base pay rate. If the individual selected or the position is eligible for a pay differential (e.g., shift, security, or years of service), it will be added to the total compensation in your paycheck. A pay differential does not raise your base pay.

Responsibilities - What you'll do

  • Direct supervision of managers who lead public health programs across the organization, including performance management, professional development, and budgeting.
  • Routine interaction and collaboration with all organizational programs to represent their needs and interests at the departmental level as well as with local, state, and national partners.
  • Provide organizational leadership, oversight, support, and guidance to public health programs in the division to ensure alignment with the organization's mission, customer needs, and regulatory requirements.
  • Work directly with executive leadership and fiscal management to guide the organization's overall strategic direction and operational effectiveness.
  • Work closely with building and facilities teams to oversee operational requirements for specialized organizational spaces and infrastructure.
  • Manage, evaluate, and implement creative approaches that improve organizational efficiency, quality, and overall operational performance.
  • Serve when needed as division's designee, representing the organization in department-wide meetings and carrying out designated administrative responsibilities.

  • Bachelor's degree in a biological or chemical science field, 4 or more years of relevant experience, and 1-2 years of supervisory experience.
