Job Description

Dewberry is currently seeking a Site/Civil Engineering Deputy Department Manager in support of several large, residential, mixed-use, commercial, retail, industrial, and data center projects. The position will be located in Dewberry's Lanham, MD office. The ideal candidate will be a highly motivated and qualified individual with a proven track record of design and construction experience in a variety of private and public land development projects in the Washington DC Metro area and surrounding counties.

 

The successful candidate will be assisting in the management of a team of civil engineers in the design of site / civil facilities, parks, and in support of other projects and departments within Dewberry.  The Individual will be responsible for supporting the Department Manager in all aspects of project design for residential, commercial and industrial site development projects.

 

Responsibilities

This person will perform project design duties in coordination with a team of support staff to develop detailed engineering documents for construction projects. The ideal candidate will complement the current team by providing additional detailed design and construction experience and by adding project management depth.

Experienced individual must be capable of delivering projects that meet technical requirements on time and within budget. Must have the ability to coordinate project submittals, facilitate regulatory agency approvals, and obtain construction permits. The candidate is expected to manage design for multiple projects, assist with marketing and proposal efforts, and project management duties as well as oversee, train and mentor junior/mid-level staff.

Candidates should have the ability to work closely with clients and agency staff, including attendance at public and/or construction meetings and also represent the company at other events as needed. Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills.

This individual will be involved in staff recruiting and retention efforts, annual performance reviews, pursuit of new projects and staffing plan development, and assist in development of proposals and project budgets.  The selected individual will significantly contribute to the business development of the department’s and office’s workload as well as client management of one or more clients.

Required Skills & Required Experience
  • BS degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
  • Minimum 10 years' experience of increasing levels of project and client responsibilities.
  • PE license.
  • In depth knowledge of and strong relationships with public and private sector clients in the Maryland market.
  • Strong client retention and new business development skills.
  • Ability to successfully manage multiple projects concurrently.
  • Experience managing a team of professionals with a wide array of skills sets.
  • Experience participating and supporting corporate initiatives is a plus.
  • Ability to provide technical expertise to design staff.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with clients.

Salary Range

The projected range for this position is $135,000-$173,000 annually in our Lanham, MD office. Depending upon other factors, i.e., skills, experience, location, market conditions, the range may vary slightly.
