Full Job Description
Description

The Role

As a Delivery Engineer on the PDL Engineering team, you'll own the full upstream delivery lifecycle, from stakeholder discovery through to sprint-ready handoff. You're the person who makes sure the right thing gets built, scoped properly, and delivered on time. This role sits at the intersection of business analysis and project management. You'll carry the strengths of both disciplines: the analytical depth to define what needs to be built, and the planning rigour to make sure it actually ships. AI tooling is a core part of how you'll operate, giving you the leverage to cover that full range effectively.

You won't just be gathering requirements and passing them along. You'll be in system design conversations, asking the questions that surface trade-offs before they become problems. You'll own the delivery plan, the backlog, and the stakeholder communication. You'll produce the artefacts that keep everything aligned. This isn't a coordination role. It's an ownership role.

Purolator Digital Lab (PDL) is a division of Purolator Inc. dedicated to the rapid development of engineered technologies. Our goal is to deliver tech that enables Purolator to be the premier freight, parcel, and logistics provider in Canada. PDL is a well-funded startup within Purolator, a progressive and profitable Canadian company. This division is developing several systems to drive new business for Purolator and our strategic partners. We are looking for a Delivery Engineer to join our Engineering team. Someone who can see the full picture, move between business problems and technical solutions, and keep delivery moving without missing the details.

Responsibilities

  • Leading discovery with business stakeholders to define problems, scope, and success criteria
  • Translating requirements into well-structured epics, user stories, and acceptance criteria
  • Contributing to system and solution design discussions, evaluating options, surfacing trade-offs, and documenting decisions
  • Developing and maintaining delivery plans, milestones, and dependency maps
  • Owning backlog management and prioritization in collaboration with the dev team lead
  • Facilitating sprint ceremonies as the business and planning voice
  • Producing supporting artefacts (BRDs, process flows, UAT plans) using AI-assisted drafting
  • Tracking progress, managing risks, and owning stakeholder communication through delivery
  • Validating delivered work against acceptance criteria before sign-off

Tools You'll Work With

You'll be expected to leverage modern tooling, especially AI, to operate effectively across the full scope of this role. The specific tools evolve, but here's what's in play right now:

  • Gen AI and Agents for drafting documentation, accelerating analysis, and augmenting planning workflows
  • Copilot Studio for building custom agents to automate your own workflows and streamline repetitive tasks. You'll have the freedom to experiment and create tooling that works for you.
  • Work management platforms (Azure DevOps, Jira) for backlog management, sprint planning, and tracking
  • Diagramming and modelling tools (Miro, Visio, or equivalent)
  • Microsoft 365 (SharePoint, Teams, PowerPoint) for stakeholder communication and collaboration
  • Familiarity with developer workflows (Git, CI/CD concepts, API documentation). You won't be writing code, but you need to speak the language.

The Candidate

This role is for you if you:

  • See yourself as a delivery owner, not a ticket-taker. You drive outcomes, not just process.
  • Have enough technical fluency to sit in a system design conversation and add value. You don't write code, but you understand how software is built and how decisions ripple through a system.
  • Are already using AI tools to work faster and think bigger. Not as a novelty, but as a core part of how you operate.
  • Can hold your own with senior stakeholders and translate business intent into something a dev team can actually execute against
  • Thrive in ambiguity and fast-moving environments. You bring structure without slowing things down.
  • Communicate clearly, document thoroughly, and don't wait to be asked to do either
  • Find the variety and pace of an R&D team energizing. You'd rather own a wide lane than a narrow one.

Required Skills
  • 4 to 7 years of experience in a BA, product owner, technical PM, or delivery-focused role
  • Strong requirements elicitation and documentation skills, including epics, user stories, acceptance criteria, and BRDs
  • Demonstrated ability to contribute meaningfully to system and solution design discussions
  • Proven use of AI tools to accelerate analysis, documentation, and planning work
  • Experience with backlog management and Agile delivery practices (Scrum, Kanban)
  • Strong facilitation, written communication, and stakeholder management skills
  • Comfortable owning delivery planning without a dedicated PM above you
  • Experience working directly alongside software development teams
  • Familiarity with work management platforms such as Azure DevOps, Jira, or similar

What We Offer

The PDL Engineering team is small, sharp, and moves fast. You'll work alongside people who are genuinely excited about what they're building, across robotics, AI, IoT, computer vision, and more. There's no hand-holding here, but there's plenty of collaboration. If you're the kind of person who brings clarity to chaos and ships outcomes, not just documents, you'll fit right in.

  • Industry-leading total compensation and benefits
  • A modern technology stack in a team that values innovative ideas and moves fast
  • A diverse and inclusive environment that is friendly to family commitments
  • Team outings and social events
  • Mentorship and growth opportunities across a wide range of technologies and domains
  • Make a difference in the lives of hundreds of thousands of Canadians every day

Language Requirement: Proficiency in English is required for this position due to the frequent communications that must be conducted in English with various stakeholders. This requirement is justified by the nature of the responsibilities and operational needs.
