Reporting to the Supervisor, Decision Support, this role combines advanced technical expertise with strong analytical and communication skills to support evidence-based decision-making, performance monitoring, and continuous quality improvement across the organization.
The Decision Support Specialist works closely with clinical, operational, finance, and information systems teams to translate complex data into meaningful reporting, actionable insights, and scalable business intelligence solutions. This role supports the design, development, maintenance, and ongoing enhancement of data models, reports, dashboards, and analytical processes that improve organizational performance, reduce manual effort, and strengthen data quality.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Produce accurate, timely, and reliable reporting and analytics to support internal decision-making, operational planning, quality improvement, and external reporting commitments.
  • Develop and support metrics, key performance indicators, scorecards, utilization reporting, and performance measurement frameworks aligned with organizational priorities.
  • Extract, transform, validate, and analyze complex data from multiple sources to identify trends, produce insights, and support strategic and operational initiatives.
  • Develop, maintain, and enhance Power BI dashboards, reports, scorecards, data models, and other business intelligence products that improve access to timely, actionable information.
  • Identify opportunities to streamline reporting workflows, reduce manual effort, automate recurring processes, and optimize reporting performance and model design.
  • Support scalable reporting solutions that are maintainable, well-documented, and aligned with organizational reporting standards.
  • Collaborate with clinical, operational, finance, and information systems teams to gather requirements, interpret reporting needs, and deliver meaningful analysis that supports service planning and performance improvement.
  • Provide user support and stakeholder guidance on report interpretation, data literacy, and the effective use of reporting and visualization tools.
  • Deliver training, knowledge transfer, and ongoing support to end users and stakeholders, responding to reporting questions and troubleshooting needs as required.
  • Monitor data quality, investigate anomalies, and recommend improvements to data collection, validation, and reporting processes.
  • Document business rules, metric definitions, validation logic, report specifications, and reporting processes to support consistent interpretation and governance.
  • Develop and maintain clear technical, functional, and user-facing documentation, including reference materials and support resources that promote consistent use and sustainability of reporting solutions.

Qualifications:
  • Undergraduate degree in a relevant field such as Health Informatics, Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Business Intelligence, or a related discipline; a master's degree is considered an asset.
  • Progressive experience in decision support, analytics, business intelligence, or data reporting environment; healthcare experience is strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated expertise in advanced SQL, relational databases, enterprise data environments, and the development of analytical reporting solutions.
  • Advanced experience developing Power BI datasets, dashboards, scorecards, and reports using SQL, DAX, Power Query, and industry best practices.
  • Experience with performance measurement, balanced scorecards, indicator development, data quality improvement initiatives, and reporting governance practices.
  • Experience developing and maintaining technical, functional, and user-facing documentation, including report specifications, business rules, reference materials, and support resources.
  • Experience providing user support, responding to reporting questions, and delivering training or knowledge transfer to stakeholders and end users.
  • Advanced SQL skills, including data extraction, transformation, validation, and optimization in complex reporting environments.
  • Familiarity with automation, modern analytics platforms, and emerging technologies such as Python, Microsoft Fabric, Azure, or related tools.
  • Strong understanding of data modelling, semantic models, and enterprise reporting architecture.
  • Ability to design scalable, high-performing, and user-friendly business intelligence solutions
  • Strong dashboard and visualization design skills with the ability to communicate complex information to diverse audiences.
  • Experience supporting data quality, validation, reconciliation, and reporting governance practices.
  • Understanding of healthcare privacy, security, access management, and data protection principles.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, and familiarity with healthcare systems, data standards, or reporting repositories is an asset.
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively, actively contributing to team discussions, knowledge sharing, problem-solving, and continuous improvement initiatives while building effective working relationships across teams and stakeholder groups.
